Whatever the opposite of ‘love is in the air’ is, it’s happening in EastEnders right now, with not one but two major couples calling it quits in recent scenes.
Keanu Taylor (Danny Walters) was left reeling by the discovery that fiancé Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) had helped Lisa Fowler (Lucy Benjamin) take his daughter, Peggy, out of the country, and ultimately decided that he couldn’t see a way forward in their relationship following the betrayal.
Though Sharon explained that her actions were for Peggy’s sake, Keanu couldn’t see past his own grief, and instead wondered why he was questioning whether or not he trusted the person he was supposed to be marrying.
Sharon urged him to think of son Albie and the family they had built together, but hurt Keanu, who had only just lost one child, took this as a threat.
After taking time to mull things over, Keanu returned to the house and asked unsuspecting Sharon whether she would ever try to take Albie away from him.
Sharon insisted that it wouldn’t ever come to that as she wasn’t going to give up on him, but Keanu wasn’t sure he’d ever be able to forgive Sharon’s betrayal.
With a heavy heart, he admitted that he couldn’t marry her, leaving her completely devastated.
Elsewhere, things weren’t looking much better for Martin Fowler (James Bye) and Stacey Slater’s (Lacey Turner) newly reformed relationship, as Martin continued to struggle with Stacey’s cam work.
Once Jean Slater (Gillian Wright) had clarified that Martin wasn’t ‘Tindering or Grindring’, she settled in for a heart to heart, where she reminded him that he knew what he was getting himself in for in regards to Stacey’s line of work.
She insisted that he didn’t throw away the love that they clearly had, and a newly encouraged Martin seemed to agree as he headed over to meet Stacey for dinner.
However, things soon turned sour when Stacey offered to pay for their meal, with Martin snapping that he didn’t want her ‘dirty money’.
Hurt, Stacey tried to explain that there was nothing seedy about what she was doing, but Martin refused to listen, pointing out that he had heard her flirting withher client.
Stacey revealed that it was just customer service, but got frustrated when Martin refused to see things from her point of view, and ended up storming out.
Martin continued to drown his sorrows, later heading into the Vic where he stumbled upon a group of lads looking at photos of women on their phone.
Still concerned that there may be men out there talking about Stacey in the same way, Martin confronted the ring leader, and demanded that they stop ‘perving’ on women.
The man gave Martin a shove, and soon, ignoring Anna Knight’s (Molly Rainford) pleas to ‘grow up and use their words’, a full fight had broken out.
It was as Martin was being punched that Stacey walked in, and soon a row had broken out between the couple once again.
As Martin revealed that he couldn’t stand the idea of people on the Square knowing what she gets up to, Stacey decided that it was time to bring their relationship to an end.
With both couples hurting, do either Sheanu or Startin stand any chance of reuniting?
