Williams claimed she would return to her show by mid-2022, but her return was delayed in February.

Radar Online initially reported the hit talk show will be canceled in June 2022.

Sherri Shepherd returned to guest-host The Wendy Williams Show in February, and at the beginning of the episode, she told viewers, " … Starting in September I am debuting my own talk show, Sherri!

"I am so excited because I am going to be joining the Deb-Mar Mercury family – that is the company that produces this show and several others that you love.

"I do want to say about all of the crazy stories online about me replacing Wendy, I am here to tell you that is not true because no one can replace the queen – nobody – and trust me, I am not trying to at all."

She added, "But I am so excited for you to go on this Sherri Show journey with me this September. Sherri Show is going to look different and it's going to feel different."

What happened to Wendy Williams and is she coming back to television?

A spokesperson for the Wendy Williams Show told Deadline, “The final original episode of The Wendy Williams Show will air on Friday, June 17th, with a video tribute to the iconic host.

"The series comes to an end after 13 successful years in syndication."

Williams claimed during an appearance on Good Morning America in March 2022, that she would return to her show in three months despite her recent health-related issues.

However, some reports questioned if Williams was suffering from early onsets of dementia, which her brother, Tommy, said wasn't true.

“I try to make it up there and my dad speaks with Wendy frequently. So no, we don't have any concerns concerning her mental state. It’s all physical," Tommy said.

“We haven't had any alerts like that and I haven't seen anything like that or have had conversations with her that would lead me to believe that," he added.

Williams took to Instagram in November 2021 to give her fans an update, promising she will return to her beloved purple chair in due time.

"As everyone knows, my health has been a hot topic," she began her update. "I’m making progress but it’s just one of those things that’s taking longer than we expected.

"I’m a woman of a certain age, and I know enough to listen to my doctors and will return to my purple chair as soon as we all agree I’m ready.

"I want to thank all of my staff and our guest hosts for stepping up and stepping in while I can’t be there. I also want to thank Debmar-Mercury and our stations for being so understanding and supportive while I work my way back."

Williams concluded her Instagram post by thanking her fans. "Most of all, I want to thank my fans. I have heard your prayers and comments and feel all the love!" she gushed.

"You are everything to me. I love spending my mornings with you all and I’m doing everything I can to get back to work, but right now Wendy has to focus on Wendy. I love you for watching."
