Known for wearing the "Serrell scarf", before joining the hit BBC One show he had already enjoyed a very successful career.
Who is Bargain Hunt auctioneer Philip Serrell?
Born in Kidderminster, Worcestershire, on March 27, 1954, Philip Serrell is a celebrity auctioneer, and antiques expert.
On TV he best known for being a regular presenter on BBC antiques programmes.
Philip kicked off his career as a livestock trade auctioneer, but he became a chartered surveyor in 1988 to analyse antiques.
Away from his television career, he owns an auctioneers and valuers firm with offices in Worcester, and a salesroom in Great Malvern, established in 1995.

The popular presenter regularly appears on BBC Local Radio, and has written a bi-weekly column for the Worcester News.
The talented star is also a singer who performs at charity events with his group, The Celebs.
Why does Philip Serrell always wear a scarf?
On TV, Philip is well known for wearing a scarf, and in 2021 decided to reveal the REAL reason behind it.
Referring to his “Serrell scarf”, he said he sports the look on camera as it was initially a hack he used to help the tech team behind the scenes.

On Twitter, he said: "Cast your mind back to about November of 1999, I was asked to record the very first Bargain Hunt that they ever recorded.
"I walked into the green room with a scarf on and I was about to take it off when the soundman said, 'What are you doing?'.
"I said, 'Well, I’m taking my scarf off'. He said, 'no, no, no – don’t do that because I can hide the microphone in there and it makes me look really good'."
The presenter was then called back for another episode, so he obviously made a good impression.
He said he then returned on a warm day without a scarf, but the sound engineer was not happy.
Philip said: "The soundman walks up to me and says 'Phil, where’s your scarf?'
"I said 'It’s in the car'. He said 'Go and get it because I can hide the microphone in there and it makes me look really good'.
"Well, come August, I’m the only bloke walking around wearing a scarf."
What has Philip Serrell starred in on TV?
Philip is known for his work on the BBC, alongside fellow antiques expert, David Dickinson.
As well as Bargain hunt, his TV work includes appearances on Dickinson’s Real Deal and Antiques Road Trip.
Philip is also known for Flog It!, and Put Your Money Where Your Mouth Is.
Is Philip Serrell married and does he have any children?
Philip is happily married to his wife Briony, and the couple live comfortably in their home in Worcester.
However, details on how they first met remain a mystery as he has never publicly spoken about his relationship.
