Sometime in 1997, James Patterson and Susan Olie tied the knot.
James and Susan started dating after they met while working at the since-rebranded advertising company, J Walter Thompson.
Prior to landing a position with JWT, she graduated with an arts degree from the University of Wisconsin – Madison in 1979.
Susan is an author who published novels that span various genres, such as gardening, lifestyle, health, and fiction.

In order to promote the sequel to the aforementioned children's novel, the pair stopped by The Today Show.
While discussing their process with Hoda Kotb and Jenna Bush Hager, Susan said: "It really wasn't work, it was so much fun."
"It was always my dream since college to write a children's book, but I ended up going into advertising. then, I luckily met Jim."
She further shared: "I've always said to Jim 'You write for so many other ages, why not write for kids at a really young age?' It was a total collaboration."
"It was a marriage of a lot of things that I already love. It should also be fun for the person who is reading it with them."
Do James and Susan have children?
In 1998, James and Susan welcomed their first and only child, a son named Jack.
Jack Patterson followed in his parents' footsteps and also became a writer.
On May 1, 2017, the father and son duo released their first published work together, a children's book titled Penguins of America.
