World Cup: Women’s football ‘no longer needs to prove itself’
Women’s World Cup fans have been left angry at the BBC ahead of the final match for flying out pundits Gabby Logan and Alex Scott at the “licence payer’s expense”.
Last year, the Women’s team smashed their way through to the final of the Euros and managed to lift the trophy.
This morning, the team are determined to do the same for the World Cup trophy, with the match being commentated and discussed by Gabby and Alex.
However, many fans of the World Cup have been left furious after Gabby, Alex and the rest of the BBC punditry team have flown out to Sydney for the semi-final and final after working the earlier rounds of the tournament from back in England.
Taking to their Twitter pages, user @ForzaMarkF1 posted: “Why have the BBC flown @GabbyLogan@AlexScott all the way to Oz at licence payers expense when they could have stayed in GB? Are they playing?#DefundTheBBC #Lionesses.”

@DeanEva63802048 asked: “Why have you sent the presenters to Australia when the studio was fine for all other games? So they can stand in front of the opera House??
“How much is this costing the licence payer? Crazy BBC behaviour as per usual. PS Alex Scott isn’t a presenter!!” (sic)
@PaulAllan2023 raged: “How did Alex Scott get to Australia to watch the #FIFAWomensWorldCup semi-final?
“She was in the UK on Saturday to record #FootballFocus for the BBC so surely she didn’t fly to the other side of the world for a football match? @GaryLineker.” (sic)

@55green continued: “BBC wasting OUR Licence fees AGAIN! The Women’s World Cup being shown on BBC & ITV.
“But why are they using our monies to fly some BBC presenter over to Australia for a ‘jolly’? They can report perfectly well from the studio in the UK… FFS.” (sic)
The Lionesses will look to claim the title for the first time, as well as become the first England team since 1966 to win a senior final on the world stage.
Speaking ahead of the match, England manager Sarina Wiegman expressed: “Everyone’s talking about 1966, so let’s be at our best on Sunday and try and be successful.
“Making a final is special but with this team and the challenges we had, how we find a way all the time to solve problems has been amazing – [it’s] very special being in a final but now we want to win it too.”
Women’s World Cup Final airs today from 11am on BBC One.
