Ziwe grills Chet Hanks on his patois accent
Ziwe fans have been left furious amid news the talk show has been cancelled after only two seasons. The outlandish series – fronted by Ziwe Fumudoh – became a viral smash hit thanks to her unique take on grilling celebrity guests and satirical take on the world, often resulting in awkward moments with stars left on the spot.
As Showtime prepares to rebrand and merge with Paramount+, executive Chris McCarthy is having a major overhaul of the channel’s programming, moving away from the late-night format Ziwe is based on.
As a result, the show – which ended its second season in December 2022 – has hit the cutting room floor, leaving fans furious with demands for it to be saved, and threatening to even boycott Showtime.
Speaking on Twitter, user @Mxttyffs wrote: “Ziwe deserved better. She was the only reason i watched Showtime.”
The thought was echoed by @_TheCatQueen_, who added: “Ziwe was literally the only reason I subscribed to @Showtime guess I can hit cancel now!”

“Terrible terrible move,” user @MSpice913 agreed. “Ziwe is a star and whatever platform she graces next will be lucky.”
“This was a terrible move @Showtime,” said Justdrew404. “Ziwe is an outstanding talent with a fun, thought-provoking show. @HBO should pick her up!”
Fumudoh has carved a career out of her acid-tongued form of comedy, which often forces viewers and interviewees alike into discussions over awkward topics.
Among her accolades, she appeared in an episode of Succession, playing a talk show host who roasted Kendall (Jeremy Strong) during a monologue, referring to him as “a jar of mayonnaise in a suit” and “Snitchy Rich”.
Launching her Ziwe talk show in February 2021, Fumudoh became known for her bright smile and unflinching deadpan questions as she confronted guests on social issues and pop culture.
This more often than not provided hilarious, if awkward, results – turning the show into must-watch TV and a TikTok sensation.
In the first episode alone, titled 55%, she grilled legendary feminist Gloria Steinem on the lyrics of Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallon’s ‘WAP’.
She later clashed with Fran Lebowitz, who refused to do a walk-out introduction or play games, and asked her: “Is that standard, for white women to come on a show and dictate how it’s supposed to go?”

Lebowitz somewhat got in on the joke, and responded: “Only Black women think white women are in charge of things.”
She would later get Phoebe Bridgers to smash a ukelele, questioned Adam Pally on why he decided to wear cornrows in the film Bad Grandpa and grilled Tom Hanks’s son Chet on his insistence on switching between an American and a Jamaican Patois accent.
Ziwe also left Glee star Amber Riley stumped in fits of laughter when asking her: “You said one of your Glee co-stars wasn’t racist… did you mean that she was?”
The comment was in reference to allegations made against lead star Lea Michele, who had been accused by others of “micro-aggressions” and “diva behaviour” while on set.
Currently, it is not yet known what the future of the series holds.
It is possible that Ziwe could be picked up by other networks, or that the star could potentially continue with the show on an online platform.
Fumudoh is yet to publicly comment on the cancellation herself.
Ziwe’s cancellation is the latest addition to a Showtime bloodbath that has seen American Gigolo, The First Lady and Billions get cancelled or announced as ending with their upcoming season.
