‘This link works’: Biden mocks Ron DeSantis’ shambolic Twitter Spaces 2024 launch with donation page – and Trump says ‘My Red Button is bigger, better, stronger, and is working’
- DeSantis’ campaign launch conversation was plagued with glitches
- Biden’s camp tweeted a fundraising link while the conversation was down
- ‘We are kind of melting the servers’
President Joe Biden’s presidential campaign tried to cash in off the tech nightmare launch to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ presidential campaign on Twitter by directing people to donate to his own campaign.
Biden’s campaign used the same platform to solicit contributions at 6:16 pm Wednesday night, while Twitter head Elon Musk and his team were describing the chaotic launch conversation while it was underway.
‘Sorry about that. We are kind of melting the servers’ were the first lines of the chat on Twitter Spaces, which was moderated by tech entrepreneur David Sacks and joined by Musk.
‘This link works,’ Biden wrote on the platform. The tweet was attached to an image of a smiling Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris and a donation page.
The page allowed visitors to click a link donate in amounts ranging from $10 to $2,000 – in a campaign where Biden is looking to top his own $1 billion fundraising for his 2020 effort.
The Biden tweet came out when it wasn’t yet known the online conversation would even proceed.
It didn’t take long for DeSantis rival Donald Trump to ridicule him for the mishaps.
‘Wow! The DeSanctus TWITTER launch is a DISASTER! His whole campaign will be a disaster. WATCH!’ Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

In an earlier post while the mishap was unfolding, Trump wrote: ‘“Rob,” My Red Button is bigger, better, stronger, and is working (TRUTH!), yours does not! (per my conversation with Kim Jung Un, of North Korea, soon to become my friend!).’
Trump had earlier referred to ‘Rob DeSanctimonious’ in a morning tweet for unexplained reasons. He was referencing the period when he exchanged angry threats with the North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un before the two finally met during his presidency.
People who tried to turn in heard long stretches of silences, interspersed with commentary not on DeSantis’ bid to become the third youngest president in U.S. history, but about the snafu.
‘Let’s see so – here we go … Keep crashing huh? I think we’ve got just a massive number of people online, too,’ went the banter.

Biden asked people to contribute up to $2,000 to his reelection effort
The technical glitches came as DeSantis is trying to launch his campaign to take on former President Donald Trump and other Republicans vying for the nomination
As the chat finally got going, Sacks said: ‘Thank you for putting up with these technical issues, we are definitely breaking new ground here. As far as I know, no major presidential candidate has ever announced their their candidacy on social media in this way.’
DeSantis’ own team soon got in on the action, trying to monetize their own technical difficulties.
‘It seems we broke the internet with so much excitement… While you’re waiting, donate NOW,’ tweeted @TeamDeSantis.
However, a user who clicked on the rondestantis.com link at 6:45 pm found it didn’t work, and only brought up a black screen with a tiny image at the center.
