Black cab drivers have been begged to check their vehicle for an urn containing the remains of a child, after the father tragically misplaced it on a journey.
The man left the child’s ashes in a black Adidas bag in a cab he took from Fenchurch Street to Smithfield Meat Market at 6.30am yesterday, according to City of London Police.
Steve McNamara, general secretary at the Licenced Taxi Drivers Association, said he wasn’t the ‘slightest bit surprised’ by the police’s appeal.
‘We’ve had babies numerous times, false teeth, mobile phones by the hundred every day, dogs, prosthetic limbs, you name it we’ve had it,’ he told The Daily Telegraph.
There is hope for the pleading father as Mr McNamara said by law taxi drivers must hand in any property left in their cabs into the police.
