Plenty of calendars show off green and verdant landscapes. But amateur photographer Kevin Beresford has dug deep to produce something slightly different for 2024 – a calendar celebrating his favourite allotments.

The pensioner, who famously once produced a calendar all about the roundabouts in his home town, has now turned his attention to the local vegetable patches in his crusade as an ‘ambassador of the mundane’.

Mr Beresford spent months travelling around Redditch, Worcestershire, to find the best green spaces on offer for gardening fans.

The 71-year-old, who admits he is ‘Britain’s dullest man’, compiled his 12 favourites into a contender for the most boring calendar of 2024 – devoted entirely to public allotments.

Mr Beresford has also previously produced calendars featuring car parks, village notice boards and one dedicated to footballer Jack Grealish’s calves. He said: ‘I used to think people who do allotments were weird and dull people, but when you get talking to them it’s pretty good.

‘They don’t just grow plants, they’re into bee hives. They’re digging for victory.’

He said allotments were ‘very relaxing places’ worthy of commemoration in a calendar and said his favourite one was in the town’s Astwood Bank district, which boasts stunning views of the picturesque Malvern Hills.

‘I always put my favourite in the December page and that one made it’, Mr Beresford added.

He has also produced a 2024 calendar featuring recycling centres – after touring tips all over the country.

Mr Beresford added: ‘These calendars don’t sell for the thousands, but it covers the cost for the printing. It gets me out. I do all the design, I make them.

‘It’s fun coming up with different content. I like to capture slice of English life and put that into a format.

‘Artists have always focused on the mundane. Van Gough would paint his pipe on the chair. I am the dullest man in Britain.’

Mr Beresford promised the best selection of pictures so far as the Man City player’s legs have become ‘bigger, better and more beautiful’ in the last 12 months.

September’s calves: He dedicated 12 months entirely to the impressive defined leg muscles of the England star as a unique stocking filler at Christmas

Last year’s version: Despite its popularity, he received some backlash on last year’s edition of the peculiar calendar with some critics saying it’s ‘disgusting’ to have an entire calendar full of calves

Previously he travelled all over the UK photographing thousands of roundabouts and his best snaps were whittled down for the new 2022 calendar

Mr Beresford said men had been flocking to buy the latest calendar for their wives and girlfriends and expects even more interest this month as his calves are ‘displayed on the world stage’.

Mr Beresford commented: ‘It was my best-selling calendar last year and that’s what pushed me to do a sequel.

‘The pictures are better this year, his calves have got better and bigger and they look more beautiful.

‘I’ve said before Grealish has the calves of a Greek god and now they even look less hairy. Whether he shaves them I don’t know but I think they’re luscious this year.
