British father-of-two, 37, and two friends are killed by ‘drunk SUV driver’ who ploughed into their golf buggy in Texas

  • Fraser Anderson, 37, originally from Aberdeen, died at the scene of the crash

A British father-of-two and his two friends were killed on Sunday when a drunk driver ploughed through an intersection in Cypress, Texas, and smashed into their golf cart.

Fraser Anderson, 37, originally from Aberdeen, died at the scene along with his friend Jacob Wnuk, 37, after their cart was smashed off the road by the oncoming SUV.

A third man, Christopher Standridge, 41, was rushed to hospital with a brain bleed but died later Sunday evening.

SUV driver Daniel Rivera, 21, returned a blood alcohol content of 0.136%, according to court records, far above the legal limit of 0.08% in Texas.

He has since been charged with three counts of murder and had his bond set at $600,000 – $200,000 for each count.

Anderson emigrated from Scotland to the US with his wife Gillian several years ago. He leaves behind Gillian and two children.

Writing on a GoFundMe page launched to help the Anderson family with funeral costs, family friend Jennifer Nickel said: ‘Please help Gillian and her family in this difficult time.

‘Proceeds will go towards travel costs as family arrives from Scotland to say their goodbye, and to help Gillian and her 2 small children in the coming weeks.

‘Fraser’s boisterous personality will be deeply missed by everyone who met him. He loved golf, pickleball and most of all, his wife and kids.

‘He was a family man and loved to play soccer with his son and the neighbourhood kids.

‘A kid at heart, he will always be remembered as everyone’s ”Uncle Fraser”.

‘We are deeply saddened by this sudden loss in our community.

‘Please show your support and help Gillian with this transition.’

The fundraiser has already raised more than $42,000.

Prosecutors said that a woman and an eight-year-old girl were travelling in Rivera’s car at the time of the crash. Both escaped without injury.

A statement given by prosecutors at a court hearing read: ‘The defendant ran a stop sign, struck the golf cart. Two complainants were found deceased on scene due to injuries sustained in the crash.

‘Complainant number three was transported to the hospital with a brain bleed, no pupillary responses, and later confirmed deceased as a result of injuries sustained during the crash.’
