A British tourist has died after feeling unwell when she swam in the sea on a beach in Albufeira, Portugal.
The unnamed woman, 45, died on September 21 after going in the sea in Penedo Beach in the Algarve resort town.
The alarm was raised at around 1.15pm on Wednesday after reports that a person was feeling unwell after getting out of the water, according to a statement issued by the National Maritime Authority.
The woman was assisted by the National Institute of Medical Emergency (INEM) but died on the beach.

Maritime Police, the SeaWatch Project (which sees navy specialists working to protect the public) and the Medical and Resuscitation Vehicle from the INEM also attended.
Her body was then taken to the Medical-Legal Office in Portimão – a port city nearby.
The Algarve, Portugal’s southernmost region, is a popular tourist spot lined with beaches and resort towns, including Albufeira.
In 2021, 2.7 million tourists visited The Algarve.
