- Musk’s latest auction will last two days, beginning on Tuesday September 12
Elon Musk is selling off more Twitter collectibles in a rebranding auction after he changed the company’s name to X.
Items including the famous blue bird logo, guitars, and an oil painting of Ellen DeGeneres’ selfie on the night of the 2014 Oscars will be available, with bids starting at $25.
Musk, 52, officially rebranded the social media from Twitter to X on July 24, in the latest controversial shake up of the social media company under his ownership.
Founded in 2006, Twitter takes its name from the sound of birds chattering, and it has used avian branding since its early days, when the company bought a stock symbol of a light blue bird for $15, according to the design website Creative Bloq.
However, Musk has implemented sweeping changes since purchasing the brand outright in October 2022.
The entrepreneur – who also owns Tesla and SpaceX – opted to switch Twitter’s blue bird icon for a more minimalist design, simply altering it to a white ‘X’ on a black background.
The alterations have proved unpopular with users, most notably his decision to remove ‘legacy’ blue ticks and force users to pay a fee in order to appear as a verified user on the platform.
‘Legacy’ blue ticks were initially given to verified accounts belonging to people of public interest including celebrities, politicians and journalists.

The items – all of which will be able to be bid on for $25 – include an oil painting of Ellen DeGeneres’ selfie on the night of the 2014 Oscars. The pictured included DeGeneres alongside fellow stars Bradley Cooper, Meryl Streep and Lupita Nyong’o
Another oil painting on sale features the photo tweeted by Barack Obama, which went viral after he won another term as US president in 2012. The photo shows him hugging his wife, Michelle, and it became the platform’s most retweeted photo ever at the time
Also featured is a portrait of the late actor Robin Williams, along with the powerful quote ‘No matter what people tell you, words and ideas can change the world’. The Californian company is trying to shift 739 lots featuring items that range from signs with the old Twitter bird logo to desks, chairs, coffee machines and musical instruments

Other highlights include the actual Twitter logo on the front of the San Francisco headquarters and quirky portraits of Robin Williams, and an oil painting of Ellen DeGeneres’ 2014 Oscars night selfie.
A wooden hashtag decorated with plants can also be bid on at the auction. Hashtags have been synonymous with Twitter for a number of years, as they are often implemented by users to connect posts to a particular trend

It features the photo tweeted by Barack Obama, which went viral after he won another term as US president in 2012.

Among the more unusual items being sold are a coffee machine and a bird cage, the latter potentially referencing Twitter’s previous name that is no longer present after Musk’s takeover of the social media platform
The latest auction comes after Musk held an unprecedented auction for more than 600 items – including furniture and items from the San Francisco headquarters – earlier this year
Musk’s efforts to raise funds for the company have also seen him auction a set of office chairs and a table. The previous auction saw a Twitter bird statue sold $100,000, while a 10ft tall neon digital sign showing the now-disused bird logo was sold for $40,000
