Temperatures are set to plunge to 7C overnight as Coronation campers spend another evening pitched on the Mall, as forecasters warn of mixed weather ahead of this weekend’s celebrations.

With some royal superfans having set up their tents a week early to bag the best spots, they can expect chilly climes tonight followed by dry weather.

Wednesday will see highs of 15C in the capital with balmy conditions and sunshine  predicted for most of the day, according to BBC Weather.

The mercury is set to climb even further on Thursday, with temperatures soaring to 18C but assailing clouds could bring the threat of rain from the south-west. 

The Coronation weekend itself looks to be a wet one with cloudy conditions on Friday and frequent showers, though the temperature is expected to be moderately warm at 17C.

A Met Office spokesperson said: ‘Saturday will be a messy picture with some showers around but it will not be as bad as Friday. 

‘We’re going to see rainfall throughout the day, more in the east, and some places will see some heavy rain again, with  20-35mm possible. 

 ‘There will also be sunny spells throughout the day. Temperatures expected to be 19C in London.’

Saturday will be mainly cloudy with patches of light rain spread throughout the day in London, with similar conditions being carried through into Sunday. 

Temperatures will remain on the warmer side on Saturday and Sunday going from 18C to 19C. 

Weather in London is expected to be chilly tonight, but thankfully forecasted to remain dry

Elsewhere in the country, most areas will be dry tonight with rural ground frost expected in the chillier parts of the south and east.

Tonight, Aberdeen will be bracing for an unseasonal chilly night as temperatures drop to 6C, with the overcast weather persisting across the week with a high of 10C on Saturday’s Coronation.

Gustier winds are expected to pick up in the south west of England as a strengthening southeasterly winds build up overnight with temperatures dropping to as low as 6C in some parts.

Some sunny spells will break through in parts of the south-west as Bristol and Plymouth see some sunshine by Friday, but heavy showers which could become thundery are also expected.

Temperatures in the east of England are also expected to reach low single-figure digits with a minimum temperature of 4C.

Some sunny spells are expected in Norfolk and Southend-On-Sea by tomorrow but heavy winds will make conditions cooler despite warmer temperatures by Thursday as the mercury rises to 15C.

The worst of the heavy showers and thunderstorms expected in the east on England will be on Friday, with further showers on Saturday.

Wales will be enjoying an evening of prolonged sunshine this evening especially in the south with some breezy conditions expected in coastal areas. 

Overnight temperature in Cardiff is expected to be relatively warmer than the rets of the country at 9C. 

But as rain begins moving northeast in Wales from Thursday, heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected on Friday, with this easy slightly on Saturday with lighter showers. 

Northern Ireland will be facing some patchy rain tonight, with a temperatures as low as 5C amid a southeasterly breeze.  

Rain will begin spreading north in Northern Ireland on Thursday with showers expected throughout the day on Friday and persisting through to Saturday. 

 A Met Office spokesperson said that there are currently no weather warnings, but that they could be issued later in the week as they forecast 20-35mm in some parts on Friday as thunderstorms rip across the country.
