Chancellor Jeremy Hunt begins his cuts… by using a £110-a-trim hairdresser whose celebrity clientele has included Brad Pitt, Naomi Campbell and Annie Lennox

Britain might be heading for the longest recession in a century but it has not cramped Chancellor Jeremy Hunt’s style – he’s using Brad Pitt’s hairdresser, who charges at least £110 a time to come to Downing Street.
Mr Hunt, who is preparing a brutal round of tax rises and public spending cuts in the autumn statement later this month, had a cut of his own when Gladys Lopez, a style director at the Errol Douglas salon in London’s Belgravia, visited No 11 last month.
Ms Lopez, who is originally from Colombia, has worked for more than two decades at the salon, whose celebrity clientele include supermodels Cindy Crawford and Naomi Campbell and singers Annie Lennox and Diana Ross, as well as Hollywood star Pitt.
‘Gladys always cuts his hair,’ a spokeswoman for the salon said. ‘Jeremy normally comes into the salon, but going forward she will be going into Downing Street.’

According to the salon, Ms Lopez, whose prices start at £110, ‘has had the experience and opportunity to work with every type of textured hair and is regularly called upon to work with clients globally and internationally including royalty, politicians and celebrities…
‘Gladys specialises in keratin, tape extensions, fine hair and tailored haircuts, styling on both women and gentlemen, and is able to deliver an express service while ensuring a luxury contemporary result’.

The freshly coiffeured Chancellor has warned that there are ‘no easy options’ to stabilise the economy after the Bank of England last week hiked interest rates from 2.25 per cent to three per cent – the biggest single rise since 1989 – and warned that Britain was facing a prolonged recession.
He said: ‘Inflation is the enemy and is weighing heavily on families, pensioners and businesses.’
Mr Hunt is not the first Downing Street resident to have expensive tastes in haircuts.
In 2006, Labour MPs were furious after it emerged that Tony Blair’s wife Cherie had presented party officials with a £275-a-day bill for the services of hairdresser André Suard during the previous year’s election campaign.
Mr Blair’s spin chief Alastair Campbell is said to have screamed at Suard on one occasion: ‘You’re just a ******* hairdresser!’
A spokesman for Mr Hunt declined to comment, but an ally said the Chancellor was working 15-hour days preparing the autumn statement – and that previous residents in Downing Street had also ‘imported’ hairdressers.
