Former New JerseyGov. Chris Christie filed paperwork Tuesday to officially enter the race for president, as he prepares to hold a town hall event in New Hampshire where he will show off his off-the-cuff speaking skills he plans to deploy against Donald Trump.
Christie is jumping into a crowded Republican field where the former president is dominating the polls.
He is well behind in early polling in New Hampshire, but he also has an established network in the early voting state, having tangled with the GOP field here during his failed 2016 presidential run.
His move comes a day after New Hampshire Gov. Chris Sununu announced he was staying out of the race – and warned that a crowded field could end up working to Trump’s advantage as it did in 2016.

The former president and his allies weren’t waiting to take on Christie, who blasted Trump after January 6.
Taking a cue from Trump’s own personal attack, Karoline Leavitt, spokeswoman for Make America Great Again Inc., said in a statement Tuesday: ‘Ron DeSantis’ campaign is spiraling, and President Trump’s dominance over the Republican primary field has opened a mad rush to seize the mantle for runner-up. Ron DeSantis is not ready for this moment, and Chris Christie will waste no time eating DeSantis’ lunch.”

That came after Trump days ago poked fun at Christie’s weight.

Trump on June 1 reposted an insult by his longtime advisor Roger Stone.
Stone posted a doctored image of Christie, who has struggled with his weight. ‘@ChrisChristie needs to run. Not for President. He just needs to run,’ Stone wrote. Trump reposted the missive without comment.
