'Cursed' painting of little girl has been returned twice

‘Cursed’ painting of little girl has been returned twice after leaving owners creeped out by her eyes that ‘follow you around the room’

  • The ‘cursed’ portrait was sold to two different owners and twice returned

A ‘haunted’ portrait of a stern-faced little girl was returned twice to a charity shop in Hastings leading the store managers to label it ‘cursed’.

The crude painting, which features a young girl in a red dress glaring haughtily into the distance, was donated to Hastings Advice Representation Centre (HARC) shop in St Leonards-on-Sea.

The Telegraph reports that the painting had originally been donated by a middle aged man along with some frames.

The store’s manager Steve remarked that the ‘creepy’ little girl had ‘eyes that follow you around the room.’

Originally priced at £25 it was soon sold to it’s first owner, however their union was short lived as less than two days later she returned.

When selling the image the store warned: ‘She’s back!!! Sold twice and returned twice! Are you brave enough’

Steve explained: ‘She said ‘I’ve got to get rid of this picture’ and that it had an ‘aura about it’, so we put it in the window [with a sign] saying ‘possibly cursed.”

The marketing tactic worked and the image was soon sold again to a new woman who immediately returned ‘shaky and distressed’ saying ‘she never wanted to see the damned thing again.’

This led to the store once again slapping a warning on the picture: ‘She’s back!!! Sold twice and returned twice! Are you brave enough.’

After an image of the sinister brat was shared on social media and garnered attention, the second owner returned to the store and retook possession of the painting.

Steve explained: ‘The last person was terrified, she couldn’t have it, but then she saw it had so many views she changed her mind. She thinks now it’s got some sort of monetary value.

‘This morning she rang me up saying, ‘I bought your picture, can I have it back?’ She’s decided she’s no longer scared and she can put up with it.

‘She wanted to buy it back and she had it back for free.

‘None of them [the picture’s former owners] wanted a refund. We priced it at £25 and at £20. It said ‘cursed’ and we thought it was, so it did everything it said on the tin.’

The creepy child was compared to The Others starring Nicole Kidman

It also drew parallels with the ghost doll from 2013’s The Conjuring

Reaction to the creepy painting was mixed on social media with some scared and others eager to make new friends

Since the post was shared on social media, many users have compared it to the cursed doll Annabelle from 2013’s The Conjuring and the haunted ghost children from 2001’s The Others – starring Nicole Kidman.

Others still have said the painting was reminiscent of their own dating profiles.

One wrote: ‘Me, reopening my Hinge Profile.’

Another said: ‘I am not brave enough. I ain’t about to be taken by a Polly Portrait Poltergeist.’

Not everyone was against the presence of an almost certainly haunted painting in their house though.

One clearly lonely man said: ‘Always wanted a haunted painting. I feel like I could level with the spirit and we’d just become pals you know.’
