Dad invents zero-gravity device in shed which lets you leap 20ft

Father builds zero-gravity machine in his shed! ‘Nutty inventor’ can now leap 20ft in the air like he’s on the MOON

  • EXCLUSIVE: YouTuber Colin Furze’s latest invention puts NASA to shame
  • The father-of-two has become the UK’s premier nutty inventor
  • Colin makes all his gadgets from scratch in his custom fitted shed

A father-of-two from Lincolnshire has developed a reputation as the UK’s premier ‘nutty inventor’ and has made everything from a James Bond car to a full doomsday tunnel complex in his back garden.

YouTuber Colin Furze, 43, is no stranger to large scale projects whether they be enormous rideable weebles or jacuzzi cars but his latest build is truly out of this world.

Colin’s latest project is a huge anti-gravity swing that allows riders to feel weightless and leap up to 20ft into the air.

The colossal steel structure was welded by Colin in his custom built Lincolnshire workshop – a space he obtained principally for his most ambitious builds.

MailOnline was invited to take a look around Colin’s home workshop and hand dug tunnels to find out what makes Britain’s most flamboyant inventor tick.

Before his YouTube career took off, Colin was a plumber by trade but he told us he had always been curious about how things work and was naturally gifted at mechanics – a skill his father nurtured.

The former plumber says he’s always had a passion for inventing

He said:  I’ve always been keen at making stuff, out of Lego or mechano when I was younger which then developed.

‘As I got older I got more confident, I even had a lathe that spun metal in my room as I couldn’t have it in his shed – imagine that!

‘When I was a plumber I combined my passions and started inventing little tools to help me at work – I’ve always liked messing around with things really.’

Colin claims to have been one of the early adopters of YouTube and is now one of the UK’s most popular accounts with 12.4million subscribers tuning in to see his latest inventions every week.

He explained: ‘I used to ride BMX’s and YouTube came along and they sort of combined.

‘I’m one of the biggest there is now but the first thing that made me big was the world’s fastest mobility scooter – that was a mad build!’

Perhaps Colin’s most famous project is the secret tunnel complex underneath his garden – an enormous undertaking that he hand dug for three years in secret without permission from his local council.

Colin began construction on his house tunnel before he told the local council

And he’s unsure if the extra room has added any value to his house or not

This he says, is simultaneously one of his most satisfying and frustrating projects – due mainly to the actual digging itself.

He explained: ‘Anything to do with digging does really well on YouTube, I’ve dug tunnels and bunkers.

‘The council to be fair were bloody brilliant when I told them, I did it all in secret to begin with as it’s easier to ask for forgiveness than permission.

‘Once it’s done they can come and see it’s done properly, it can be hard to explain it to people, they don’t have the building mindset.

‘People are shocked when I tell them about it, they assume it’s a hole full of roots.

‘We did in phases as you get pissed off after a while.’

Chronicled on his YouTube account, Colin’s ‘hole in the ground’ is now an impressive complex with carpets and a whole open plan space for entertaining – essentially creating a new room in his house.

Although he’s not too confident it would add much value to his property.

He said: ‘If I ever moved out it would probably help but some people wouldn’t want to pay extra for a tunnel or a bunker, it’s niche so nearly makes it harder to sell.

‘Preppers would love it though.’

The huge steel machine cost him thousands to build in his workshop

As Colin’s YouTube fame grew he began to branch out into larger more ambitious projects culminating in him moving some of his work to an enormous barn he made into a personalized workshop – complete with the enormous technology he couldn’t fit in his garden shed.

Explaining the move, Colin said that he had initially been reluctant to move anywhere large as it may put of his fans from attempting builds at home.

He said: ‘I got the barn when it became available. I’ve been reluctant to get a bigger workshop as I always thought the shed was more relatable.

‘If I’m doing something I want people to copy I try to keep it cheap.

‘But there are certain builds like the anti-gravity machine that you need a larger space for.

‘That was about six weeks of work. Just before Christmas I had the idea. It makes you feel weightless, like you’re floating around. It has that in space underwater feeling.

‘I’m working on an all-terrain-vehicle (ATV) next, it’s like a tank, but it’s NOT a tank, but obviously can’t do that in a shed.’

But as you might expect from a man who built a real working James Bond car with flame throwers, not every build is a slam dunk success.

Colin continued: ‘The most annoying thing I ever made was a lawnmower which ran off wood gas but it was so dirty to clean and it stank, so I packed it away forever.

My favorite invention is probably my magnet shoes as I can walk upside down across my workshop ceiling. That was brilliant – they only cost £20.’
