Dogs chained to a bench for three days without food or water are rescued as RSPCA prepares to put them up for adoption
- Pooches found chained together on the Pentire Headland, Newquay, Cornwall
- They eventually were freed with two then seen rummaging around for food
Three dogs were found padlocked and chained together to a bench in a beauty spot and left without food and drink for three days.
Pictures show the pooches tangled together with a metal chain secured to a wooden bench on the Pentire Headland, in Newquay, Cornwall – known for its far reaching views of the coast.
Two discarded bashed-up pet carriers can be seen on the grass with the doors open, alongside an upturned grey plastic water bowl. It is currently not known who dumped the dogs, but all three are wearing collars.
Tate Burton, 20, discovered the hounds during a walk yesterday at 5.30am and said they ‘are beginning to fight with one another’ with a cut and blood on the greyhound’s head.
He wrote on the Newquay Community Facebook group: ‘Does anyone know anything about these dogs? They are tied up on pentire headland and have no water or food by them.

‘We filled up there water bowls. They are extremely tangled and are beginning to fight with each other. The greyhound has blood and a cut on its head and is padlocked. They are extremely friendly, however very stressed. Clearly not well looked after.

‘Didn’t know if we should call someone or not. Thought I’d put it up here to see if anyone knows anything about them.’
More than 200 comments were left under the post, with many people left in disgust and urging someone to help.
One person said: ‘Omg this is disgusting.. in this heat too we’ve been having.. surely someone with bolt cutters can free them, this is cruelty plain and simple.
‘If they are distressed and were in car u can smash the window.. what’s the difference here?! been abandoned I’d say if asked, some one cut them free they don’t deserve animals to do this.
‘What’s the point in having pets to do this to them..’
Mr Burton, a chef, told NeedToKnow he tried for an hour to free the dogs from the chains but without any luck before going to look for help.
‘My jaw dropped when seeing the dogs tied up – I couldn’t believe it,’ he said.
‘I was at first wary with how they might react if I went over but they were scratching to see someone.

‘The dogs responded with pure excitement to see someone as they were all stressed and just wanted some love.’
He added: ‘It made me feel awful.

‘I have had many pets and couldn’t imagine torturing my dogs like this no matter what style of life I live.
‘Pets are a treat, not a right.’
A few hours later, two of the dogs were found rummaging round back gardens for food. It is not known how they became free.
Simon Dalberger and his partner Jade spotted them by their house.
Mr Dalberger said: ‘Me and Jade were in the back garden when we found them looking for water and food.
‘They looked lost, and at first were hard to get to.
‘But after the help of some neighbours, we got them into our place and gave them some dinner and water.’
The couple finally got hold of the RSPCA, and met them at a local spot to hand them over.
Simon added: ‘We both felt so, so sorry for them, after being attached to a bench for several days and somehow managed to escape or be released, they were so tired and hungry.
‘I can truly not understand how somebody could to this to a dog or any living thing.
‘I am happy we found them, but unfortunately the third dog has not been found yet.
‘The RSPCA said the dogs needed to be claimed in seven days, else they will be put up for adoption.
‘They deserve a warm and caring home.’
