MADELEINE McCann suspect Christian B might dodge the rape charge after his accuser said the attacker had a scar on his leg.

Hazel Behan, 39, who was abducted and raped in the Algarve feared Christian B was her attacker.

She had said at the time her ordeal bore chilling similarities to the German's 2005 rape of a 72-year-old American woman in Praia da Luz.

But Christian B might be able to avoid the rape charge as Hazel told the police her perpetrator had a large, cross-shaped scar on his right thigh, according to Bild.

In the Irish police protocol of the incident, it is described as "a tattoo on his backside".

However Hazel said that this was a translation error and that she had seen either a scar or something else like a large birthmark or a mole.

The outlet reports that Christian B does not have a scar or any other skin blemish in this region as he has apparently agreed to an examination.

His lawyer, Friedrich Fülscher, 38, said: "If it turns out to be true that Mr B. does not have this characteristic, he would have to be excluded as the perpetrator."

So far prosecutors have declined to comment on the allegations in German media.

Police in Portugal reopened the investigation into the rape of Behan after she contacted them to say that she believed Christian B might have been the man that attacked her.

Hazel, from Dublin had been working as a holiday rep in Praia da Rocha when she was violently attacked in the summer of 2004.

The incident two weeks before her 21st birthday was reported to police in which she described him as having "blonde eyebrows, piercing blue eyes" and she said that he spoke English with a German accent.

The American victim was beaten with a razor-sharp sword after the fiend broke into her villa during a 15-minute horror ordeal.

He also bound, gagged and tortured her during the sex attack and she told police: “I feared I was going to die.”

It comes after a TV investigation found that Christian B had a face-changing operation four months after Maddie vanished

The paedo’s jaw was reset and four distinctive “rabbit” teeth straightened in a secret visit to a private dental clinic in Germany.

In another twist, a new witness revealed B knew the hols complex where Madeleine vanished “inside out” after working there as an odd-job man.

And the dad of his ex-lover Dieter Fehlinger, 67, claimed Maddie was hidden inside Christian B's creepy VW camper when he was shown around it while visiting his daughter Nicole.

Prosecutors are confident Christian B will be charged this year over her disappearance and a sex attack on another little girl.
