Former Dallas star Patrick Duffy lists 390-acre Oregon ranch for $14m

Former Dallas star Patrick Duffy lists his 390-acre riverside Oregon ranch for $14m after acting as ‘stewards not owners’ of the property since buying it for $1.3m in 1990 with his late wife

  • Patrick Duffy, 73, has made the ranch his primary home since the early 2000s
  • The property sits along the Rogue River outside the city of Medford in southern Oregon
  • Duffy bought the first 130 acres in 1990 for roughly $1.5 million with his late wife, Carlyn Rosser
  • The couple spent about $3 million buying surrounding properties when they went up for sale
  • The properties include eight houses and several pastures that are rented out to local ranchers
  • Duffy is known for his roles as Bobby Ewing in Dallas, and as Frank Lambert on the 1990s sitcom Step By Step

Former Dallas star Patrick Duffy is putting his pristine 390-acre Oregon ranch on the market for $14 million.

The property is located on two miles of the Rogue River outside Medford, Oregon and comes with a total of seven homes, a bass pond, a pool and rustic barns, according to Alan DeVries of Sotheby’s International Realty.

The Duffy Ranch has been home to actor Patrick Duffy for the past three decades and the actor says his family ‘always felt like we were stewards as opposed to owners.’ ‘We kept the boundaries sacred,’ he added.

Duffy, who is also known as Frank Lambert on the 1990s sitcom Step By Step, and his late wife Carlyn Rosser used the ranch as a family getaway for years before living there full-time in the early 2000s.

After Rosser died in 2017, Duffy remained at the ranch and now runs an online sourdough business, called Duffy’s Dough, with his partner, Linda Purl.

Duffy told the Wall Street Journal that he bought the first 130 acres of the property in 1990 for roughly $1.5 million with Rosser and the couple spent about $3 million buying the surrounding properties when they went up for sale.

The actor discovered the property while he was fishing with a friend.

‘It was pristine,’ Duffy said. ‘There was no paved road. There were some trails through the woods and about a mile—a little less than a mile—of river frontage.’

There’s a main house on the property that has four bedrooms and connects to a gallery where the couple kept their art collection.

The caretaker’s cottage was converted into a one-bedroom guesthouse with a loft. Another building has a hot tub and overlooks the river while yet another building – this one built into the side of a mountain – houses an indoor lap pool and a wine cellar.

Over the years, the couple purchased the structures and land on the property that they rented out to tenants and local ranchers.

‘We became a working ranch but not with our own animals,’ he said. ‘It added the most beautiful, bucolic sense of the place.’

According to the listing, the property offers custom touches, including an art gallery/library, two porches, an office, a walkway to a spa cabin, a custom-built large wine cave, pool house, and large professional garden.

The property also includes over 100 acres of irrigated ground and a tranquil two-acre fish-stocked recreation/irrigation pond.

There is an abundance of wildlife on the property, including a resident elk herd, turkeys, a vast array of birds, and large black-tail deer.

In a homestead that dates back over 100 years and still sits on the property, Duffy found an old stove that he restored and put in the main house.

Duffy says he plans to move to either California or Colorado with his partner, Linda Purl.

Spending time in the kitchen at the ranch had become such a huge part of Linda Purl and Patrick Duff’s relationship, that they launched a baking product together that honors Duffy’s family.

‘Our lifestyles make us very compatible in almost every conceivable way,’ Duffy previously told People of his relationship with Happy Days star Linda Purl.

The H stars, who have been dating for over two years, spoke with the site about their new sourdough kit, Duffy’s Dough, which includes a dehydrated version of a starter that dates back ‘at least 70 years,’ Duffy said.

‘My parents took my sister and myself in 1952 in a little trailer house, towed by a truck, from Montana to Alaska. While we were there for almost two years, my mother was gifted by some old woman a sourdough starter,’ he said.

His mom baked with it throughout his childhood and his sister kept it active for years, inspiring Duffy to bake with it, too.

At the beginning of their relationship, he made sourdough pancakes for Purl, 67, who said they tasted ‘remarkable,’ and it sparked an idea to start a business using the starter.

‘Now I didn’t think I was ever going to start a business, but Linda is Linda and took it and ran with it instantly,’ said Duffy. ‘We have been dehydrating the original sourdough starter. So it’s absolutely pure from the time that my mother received it.’

‘I think it’s just an interesting comment on society and the times that certain things can remain unchanged and viable,’ Duffy said of the family heirloom.

Purl explained that baking is a way they connect with family and friends, describing the benefits of literally breaking bread together and why they hope to inspire customers to join in similar family traditions.

‘There’s a possibility of really good things happening and real communication happening. It starts with the tiny little spore of yeast, but it can expand into an experience on many levels,’ she added.

It is no surprise that this project strengthened their relationship since being in the kitchen is woven into their love story.

‘When we got together, I can actually remember I arrived late in the afternoon and we had dinner and we cooked dinner in the kitchen. And it was a dance that we had never done together, but the choreography was known to both of us,’ said Duffy.

‘Linda is a master cook, and I learn every day from the way that she cooks,’ he adds. ‘Our lifestyles make us very compatible in almost every conceivable way. In the kitchen, the way we cook, the way we clean, the way we function together as individuals.’

The limited-release product will be available to order now through mid-December.
