Say cheese! Moment gym locker room thief waves to CCTV camera while using stolen credit card as he is jailed for £3,000 spree
This is the moment a thief waved at a CCTV camera while holding a stolen credit card – before having the smile wiped off his face when he was put behind bars.
John Fletcher, 50, raided gym locker rooms, stealing £1,000 in cash before spending a further £2,000 on stolen cards.
Footage from a supermarket shows him noticing a security camera above the till before grinning and waving at it – with a stolen card clearly visible in his right hand.
Kent Police began an investigation into a series of thefts from gyms in Ashford and Eastbourne in January and February this year.

CCTV shows Fletcher slipping through the turnstiles to get into the locker rooms – sometimes assisted by his 35-year-old accomplice Laura McGannan, who distracted the staff.
Officers arrested Fletcher and McGannan after stopping them in a car near Tunbridge Wells on February 24.
Fletcher, from Bexhill-on-Sea, was charged with six counts of burglary and 10 counts of fraud.
He admitted all the counts and was jailed for two and a half years at Canterbury Crown Court.

McGannan, from Winchelsea, was handed a six-month suspended sentence after admitting five counts of burglary based on her role assisting Fletcher.
PC Michael Eeles, of the Kent Crime Squad, said: ‘CCTV showed Fletcher waving at a camera while he spent other people’s money at a supermarket.
‘I am pleased the quick work of detectives led to him being arrested a few days later and he is now in prison, unable to further trouble the public.’
