BORIS Johnson has vowed to stand down as Prime Minister by October, but restless rebels and the Labour Party want him gone sooner.
Tory MPs fuming at the PM's decision to cling on for a few more months will try and influence the timetable for crowing their new party leader next week.
The rebels want the process to be as quick as possible because once a new Tory leader is chosen, Mr Johnson has to exit No10.
Next Monday the 1922 committee of backbench MPs will meet to vote on a new executive team.
Almost immediately the new team will then have the power to decide on leadership election timings.
Hard core anti-Boris Tories are vowing to vote for whichever candidates propose the quickest timetable for the leadership race.
A well-placed source told The Sun they represent “the widespread view of the party.”
Other Tory MPs are more relaxed and say the process should not be rushed.
They want to have until October's party conference to scrutinise the different leadership options available.

Another way Mr Johnson can be forced out is through a no confidence motion in the Commons.
Labour has pledged to table one next week if the Tories don’t drag the PM out quicker.
This morning Angela Rayner said: “They do have to get rid of him, and if they don’t, we will call a no confidence vote because it’s pretty clear – he hasn’t got the confidence of the house or the British public.”

If a majority of MPs vote for the motion a shock general election will be triggered.
The Tories will then have to rush to pick a new leader, all while at the same time campaigning to win seats across the UK.
If they don’t want to do, that the Queen could choose an interim PM who would lead the party in an election, such as the current Deputy PM Dominic Raab.
