Socialite Jasmine Hartin has given just £1,792 to the family of a Belize police chief she shot dead – and now they are demanding she pay ‘true compensation’.
But Hartin, 33, is fighting to get her passport back so she can flee the central American country and see her six-year-old twins for the first time in a year.
Last night her spokeswoman suggested Hartin, who shares the twins with Tory grandee Lord Ashcroft’s son Andrew, was a conspiracy victim and demanded ‘justice for Jasmine’.
The widow and six children of her victim, Superintendent Henry Jemmott, 42, insisted she cough up more – and expressed grave concern about letting her leave Belize.
Leslie Mendez, lawyer for Supt Jemmott’s widow Romit Wilson, 39, said: ‘Jasmine continues to pitch herself as the victim in this case where six children lost their father, a woman lost her partner of 13 years and sisters lost their brother.

‘Her actions have left wounds that will take decades to heal. Being held accountable is not an injustice or the result of corruption.
‘Perhaps it has surprised her to learn that Belize is a real place with real laws, courts and lawyers – not just her fantasy getaway.
‘There are real people here with lives, stories and people they love.’
Canadian Hartin’s passport was confiscated in 2021 after she shot Supt Jemmott in the head with his gun while they were drinking on a moonlit pier in the town of San Pedro. She later claimed he had been showing her how to use it.
On Wednesday, she was ordered to do 300 hours of community service and pay a £30,000 fine for the negligent manslaughter of Supt Jemmott – but none of that money will go to his bereaved relatives.
In a bid to avoid a jail sentence, Hartin claimed she had been paying compensation voluntarily to Supt Jemmott’s family.
However, the family said the payments, totalling £1,792, were only made in exchange for Ms Wilson pausing a civil action against her until the end of the criminal proceedings.
Ms Mendez said: ‘This was a temporary arrangement. Jasmine has repeatedly misrepresented these payments and breached confidentiality. The family’s civil claim remains live. Jasmine has not admitted liability there. We plan to pursue a true compensatory order.
‘We have our concerns about her leaving the country but we will press and make every effort to get some justice for the Jemmotts.’
Hartin spent most of Thursday pleading in vain for officials at Belize city’s Supreme Court to give back her passport.
She hasn’t seen her twins by Mr Ashcroft, 45, son of billionaire former Tory deputy chairman Lord Ashcroft, since he was given full custody and moved with them to the Turks and Caicos Islands, near the Bahamas, last June.
Her spokeswoman Louisa Chiaramonte said: ‘We are in the midst of a drama trying to retrieve her passport. They are playing games with her as usual, changing the rules on a whim. There may be some nefarious motives behind that from a long-reaching arm.
‘We will hopefully be travelling out of the country soon. This is just the beginning over custody. Now that this is over, we’re going to start letting people know the real truth, to get some justice for Jasmine.’
Hartin is also charged with possessing cocaine after police allegedly found a substance in her handbag on the night she was arrested. She is also accused of assaulting a member of staff at Andrew Ashcroft’s Alaia holiday resort in Belize.
