Jeffrey Dahmer latest updates: Milwaukee reporter reveals 'creepy' item that stood out in killer's 'eerie' apartment | The Sun

A REPORTER from Milwaukee who was at the scene of the apartment on the night of Jeffrey Dahmer's arrest has revealed that there was one "creepy" item that stood out in killer's "eerie" apartment.

Jeff Fleming, a reporter from Milwaukee NBC, said he was at the scene of the night Dahmer was arrested.

During Netflix's new series, Conversations with a killer: The Jeffrey Dahmer Tapes, the reporter highlighted that he knew something “big was happening” due to the faces of the police officers at the scene.

Jeff managed to get a look at Dahmer’s apartment room as he knew the police officer guarding the door and said the room was not too memorable however the one thing that stood at to him “more than anything else” was the “creepy lava lamp”.

He said it gave an “eerie” feel to the apartment.

    Jeffrey Dahmer show’s success is down to its violent nature, claims columnist

    Netflix’s insightful drama ‘Monster’, which explores the murders of serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer, has made the platform’s history by beating Squid Game and Bridgerton as its most-watched show.

    But Richard Rushfield, a columnist for The Ankler, told Good Morning America that the programme’s violent nature is responsible for its success.

    “True crime has become a huge phenomenon across the medium,’ he said. ‘I think that, in tumultuous times where people feel uneasy and a lot of anxiety about their world, watching true crime helps them sort of acclimate themselves to the worst things on earth and they become accustomed to it. 

    “It makes the world a little less scary.”

    Dahmer was born in Milwaukee on May 21, 1960.

    “He was described as an energetic and happy child until the age of four when surgery to correct a double hernia seemed to effect a change in the boy,” according to Biography.com.

    “Noticeably subdued, he became increasingly withdrawn following the birth of his younger brother and the family’s frequent moves.

    “By his early teens, he was disengaged, tense and largely friendless.”

    The serial killer lived in Apartment 213 at 924 North 25th Street in Milwaukee, where police discovered 11 bodies – marking the end of his twisted reign of terror.

    The apartment is located in the 49-unit Oxford Apartments building, was Dahmer’s home for 14 months.

    It once again garnered public attention when it was heavily featured in Netflix‘s Monster: The Dahmer Story.

    According to FBI photos taken following Dahmer’s arrest in 1991, the apartment featured a fridge, a cream sofa, a carpet roll, a fish tank in the living room, and a bed, small TV, a dresser and a barrel of acid in his bedroom.

    Described as the “killing factory” by the New York Times, the blood-stained apartment was never rented out after Dahmer’s killing spree.

    The building was demolished at the request of the victims’ families and the plot was bought in 1995 by “collaborative neighborhood redevelopment initiative” Campus Circle Project.

    It was still empty in 2022.

    James ”Jamie” Doxtator was of Native American descent and just 14-years-old at the time of his death.

    His mother described him as an independent and outgoing teenager who got into trouble and cut school.

    According to The Tampa Bay Times, the teenager had ran away from home to escape an abusive stepfather – just two days before he met Jeffrey Dahmer.

    Reports state that the teenager had an abusive father, who made his life quite difficult, however this was never confirmed.

    His mother reported her son’s disappearance to the police, but it wasn’t until he was identified as one of Dahmer’s victims that she found out what had happened to her son.

    Despite his troubles, the young runaway had high hopes for his future, sadly the teenager had no idea about the tragedy that would ultimately cost him his life.

    Jeffery was labelled ‘The Milwaukee Cannibal’ and he got the gruesome nickname after his murderous and twisted reign of terror.

    He murdered and dismembered 17 males over a 13-year period before he was apprehended by authorities.

    He would keep body parts as souvenirs, including skulls and genitals.

    “He frequently took photos of his victims at various stages of the murder process, so he could recollect each act afterward and relive the experience,” according to Biography.com.

    After committing the grisly slayings he was arrested by Milwaukee police officers on July 22, 1991. 

    Dahmer would be convicted the following year and sentenced to 16 consecutive life terms in prison.

    He reportedly “adjusted well to prison life, although he was initially kept apart from the general population,” according to Biography.com.

    “He eventually convinced authorities to allow him to integrate more fully with other inmates.”

    Dahmer found religion in the Wisconsin prison and was given permission to be baptized by a local pastor.

    Osvaldo Durruthy, 65, has “no regrets” for attempting to murder the mass murderer.

    Durruthy tried to slash Jeffrey’s throat, before he was killed in prison.

    Speaking to the Daily Mail, Durruthy said: “I don’t have an ounce of regret on what I did to Jeffrey Dahmer. I tried to kill him, and I failed.

    “I don’t even regret having to spend an extra five years in prison because I tried to kill him. And I’m glad someone else got him.”

    Jeffrey Dahmer met his maker in prison

    Sicko Jeffrey Dahmer suffered a similar fate to his victims as he was killed by fellow Columbia Correctional Institution inmate Christopher Scarver on November 28, 1994.

    Scarver also beat inmate Jesse Anderson to death during the assault.

    “He crossed the line with some people – prisoners, prison staff,” Scarver told the New York Post in 2015, referring to Dahmer.

    “Some people who are in prison are repentant – but he was not one of them.”

    Scarver told the newspaper that Dahmer would make severed limbs out of prison food to provoke other inmates.

    Dahmer would also add packets of ketchup to use as blood, he said.

    He added that “I saw heated interactions between [Dahmer] and other prisoners from time to time.”

    Dahmer was arrested on July 22, 1991.

    His arrest came after Tracy Edwards waved down two police officers Rolf Mueller and Robert Rauth who were on patrol in downtown Milwaukee.

    Both officers then went to Dahmer’s apartment to question him – it was there Mueller discovered the Polaroids kept on his bedside table.

    After making the gruesome discovery, Mueller realised the Polaroids he was holding had been photographed in the same apartment where they were standing.

    Showing his partner, Mueller said: ”These are for real.”

    Dahmer was quickly apprehended and arrested.

    He was convicted the following year and sentenced to 16 consecutive life terms in prison.
