A NINE-YEAR-OLD girl has been shot dead overnight after an "unknown" man burst into a Liverpool home and gunned her down – with cops now hunting the "cowardly" gunman.
The schoolgirl tragically died after being shot in the chest at the Knotty Ash home about 10pm.
It's the third fatal shooting of a young person in Liverpool in less than a week.
The tragedy unfolded just 24 hours after Ashley Dale, 28, was shot dead just two miles away in Old Swan – while a man in his 20s died on Wednesday after a shooting in Toxteth.
Merseyside Police today blasted the "shocking" shooting that claimed the life of the "young and innocent" nine-year-old girl.
A woman also suffered a gunshot injury to her hand while a man was shot in his body – with both rushed to hospital.

Cops are currently carrying out house-to-house, CCTV and forensic enquiries are in the process of being carried out. A cordon is also in place.
Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims said: “This is a truly shocking incident in which tragically a young and innocent girl has been shot and sadly died.
"Our thoughts and condolences go to her family and friends at this very difficult time. No parent should ever have to suffer the loss of a child in these dreadful circumstances.
