We all know the fairly standard policy – no shirt, no shoes, no service. But no scents or no sushi is definitely a new one.
The dress code at Sushi Kanesaka in London instructs customers ‘do not wear perfume’, it has emerged.
The luxurious restaurant, located in the 45 Park Lane, Dorchester Collection hotel, reportedly does not want any fragrances to overpower the smell of the vinegar served with its 18-course set menu.
The dress code provided to guests includes bans typical of fine dining establishments, including the prohibition of sportswear, caps or trainers.
But in a more unusual move, the code also states that the ‘refreshing’ scent of vinegar and fish are important to the Sushi Kanesaka experience, The Telegraph reported.

The extended dress code for Sushi Kanesaka instructs diners: ‘We kindly ask that you refrain from wearing sportswear, caps or trainers in our restaurant.
‘To ensure the best sushi experience for you and your fellow diners, we kindly request that you refrain from wearing perfume.’
It is unclear how the restaurant intends to enforce its odour-free policy. MailOnline has approached the establishment for comment.
Sushi Kanesaka boasts a set menu that is believed to be the most expensive in London at £420 per person.
Guests, sitting at a 13-seat counter, enjoy the ‘omasake’ style experience in which the chef decides what foods to serve them.
Chef Shinji Kanesake, who prepares the food, has previously described it as a ‘very special and unique’ experience that offers an ‘intimate personal connection’ between diners and the chef.
The restaurant prepares its Edomae sushi using the ‘finest ingredients, traditional techniques and utmost dedication,’ Chef Kanesake explained.
He says the experience is ‘transporting guests to the vibrant streets of Ginza’ and offers the ‘tranquillity of a traditional omakase service.’
