TV presenter Lowri Turner hit back at stand up comedian Nish Kumar after he criticised the ‘bizarre fixation’ with the transgender community in the media.

Speaking on the Jeremy Vine show, Mr Kumar said people have a ‘pathological obsession’ with the transgender community, adding it’s as if they’ve ‘caught brainworms about the subject’.

But Ms Turner hit back saying, as a woman, when she sees some of her rights under threat she will defend them.

She argued that doesn’t mean she has a ‘brainworm,’ nor is she ‘pathological’.

And she was backed by many on social media who slammed the comedian’s comments, saying: ‘We must defend women’s rights they are being consistently eroded!’

In a clip from the show posted online, Kumar said: ‘I believe that the transgender community deserves our love and support.

‘But there is a bizarre fixation with it in the British press. I don’t know what’s going on.

‘It feels like everyone in the British media has like caught some sort of brainworms about the subject.

‘It is a community that people have a pathological obsession with. I just think: live and let live.’

Ms Turner interjected with: ‘Speaking as a woman obviously, when I see some of my rights under threat, I haven’t got a ‘brainworm,’ I’m not ‘pathological,’ I’m simply defending my rights.

‘And I think that feminists – whether you want to call them TERFs or not – have a right to defend their rights.

‘We’re not having a kind of brain explosion here, this is quite a serious issue about women’s rights that need to be defended.’

‘It is a community that people have a pathological obsession with,’ he said

Ms Turner received praise online by people saying it was good she ‘put him back in his box’

People have waded in on the debate on social media

Many have blasted Mr Kumar’s comments after the clip on Jeremy Vine was also shared on social media.

One said: ‘I genuinely don’t believe people like Nish actually believe in what they’re saying.

‘More fear of being cancelled since let’s face it, his ‘contributions’ to comedy could easily be replaced!’

Another agreed, adding: ‘You’re right. He just thinks he’s being virtuous because it’s ‘progressive’, even though it tramples on the rights of Women.’

Others praised Ms Turner, telling her ‘well done’ and saying ‘good on Lowri Turner for putting him back in his box!’
