A MAN has been charged with rape after police launched a probe into an alleged attack on a young girl.
Emergency services said they were called after the child, who is under the age of 13, was said to have been raped on Sunday.
The force today said Simon Murch, 54, had been charged and is due to appear in court next month.
Staffordshire Police said: "A man has been charged with rape of a child in Stoke-on-Trent.
"Simon Murch, 54, from Sheffield, is due to appear at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on 21 August charged with rape of a girl under 13.
"It comes after we received a report of rape on Sunday."
