Two men were taken to hospital, one with life-threatening injuries and the other with serious injuries.

Another self-presented to hospital with an arm injury.

Venue owner Peter Iwaniuk, who describes his club as “an iconic Melbourne brand like Moulin Rouge in Paris”, said the stabbing occurred in the club’s toilets shortly before closing time.

“There was hardly anyone in the club at the time. We were winding down, getting ready to close,” he said.

“I’ve had this place more than 30 years and we’ve never had anything like this before.

“There are people coming in and out of the club all the time. We don’t have regular customers like a pub.”

No arrests have been made, with police hunting two offenders who fled the scene.

The venue has been cordoned off and the intersection of Lonsdale and King streets closed as police investigate.
