Man, in his 20s, is shot dead on street close to Battersea Park: Police launch murder probe after victim died of wounds at scene
A man in his 20s has been shot dead on a street close to Battersea Park.
The Metropolitan Police has launched a murder investigation after the victim died of his wounds on Thursday night.
Police officers were called to reports of gunshots heard on Shuttleworth Road at around 21:50pm.
Leading the investigation, Detective Chief Inspector Neil John said: ‘This is a tragic incident where a young man has lost his life whilst standing on a street in Battersea.
‘Detectives are working at pace to gather as much information as possible and I would ask anyone who was in the area and saw events unfold, or anyone who has captured this on phone or doorbell footage, to contact police immediately.’
No arrests have been made, but the force said enquiries are ongoing.
London Ambulance Service immediately provided emergency first aid, but despite their efforts the man sadly died at the scene.
The man is yet to be formally identified, but his next of kin has been informed. Identification and a post-mortem examination is expected to take place in due course.
Detective Chief Superintendent Clair Kelland said: ‘This murder will come as a terrible shock to the local community.
‘I want to reassure them that experienced homicide detectives from the specialist crime command will be working tirelessly to find out who is responsible, and we will offer them all the support we can.’
She added: ‘There will be an enhanced police presence in the area over the coming days.
‘Please tell us if you saw or heard anything, or wish to raise any concerns.’
