Marelle Sturrock murder: 'Chilling' nickname suspected killer fiance David Yates gave tragic pregnant teacher revealed | The Sun

THE chilling nickname suspected killer David Yates gave his fiance has been revealed.

The 36-year-old is suspected to have murdered his 29-week pregnant partner Marelle Sturrock – who was found dead at their Glasgow home on Jura Street, Craigton on Tuesday morning.

Cops hunted Yates over the murder of Marelle, 35, and undertook a 60-hour search of Mugdock country park after his car was found abandoned there.

Yates was confirmed dead after his body was pulled from Mugdock reservoir on Thursday.

Following the tragic murder, it has emerged David had a nickname for his teacher fiancee – who died alongside her unborn baby.

David appeared to be a fan of Lord of the Rings, and even named their pet labrador after Hobbit Samwise Gamgee.

In a post on social media, he referred to Marelle as his "very own Lúthien".

In the books, Lúthien was an elf maiden who fell in love with a man called Beren. And the pair met a tragic end when Lúthien chooses to die after Beren is killed.

A post on David's Facebook read: “Big shout out to Marelle, my very own Luthien.”

And the link to a double death has been described as chilling following Marelle's murder.

A source told the Daily Record: “Nobody really saw any problem with it but the fact that the Luthien character was involved in this strange double death is chilling.”

It also emerged how suspected killer Yates quit his heavy metal band to pursue his dream of having a family and a puppy.

We told yesterday how Police Scotland are being probed by a watchdog over the circumstances which led to the murder of pregnant teacher Marelle.

She was found dead when worried colleagues at Sandwood Primary in Penilee, Glasgow, alerted police after calling at her home when she failed to show up for work on Tuesday.

Devasted coworkers have been left struggling to cope with the news of the killing.

Heartbreaking tributes have been paid to "wonderful and kind" Marelle, with one person saying she "would have been the best mum."
