Terrifying moment panicked caver misses his air hole in tight space and nearly drowns

  • The incident took place inside an unexplored – and partially flooded – cave at Texas’s Guadalupe River Ranch, and nearly resulted in two YouTubers’ demise
  •  A camera recording the action proceeds to go underwater for several seconds, at which point even viewers likely held their breath
  •  Thankfully, the unnamed man quickly resurfaced – along with the friend whose panic spurred the close call, identified only as Jacob. Both emerged fine

Heart-pounding footage shows the moment a caver almost drowned while neck-deep in subterranean water – after one of his companions caused him to lose his grip and become completely submerged.

The incident took place inside an unexplored and partially flooded cave at Texas’s Guadalupe River Ranch, and nearly resulted in both YouTubers’ untimely demise.

The influencers – who post their spelunking under the pseudonym Underground Explorers – are seen swimming in an almost completely flooded portion of the cave before going under – losing their all-important air pocket in the process.

A camera recording the action proceeds to go underwater for a few seconds, at which point even viewers likely held their breath.

Thankfully, the unnamed man quickly resurfaced – along with the friend whose panic spurred the close call, identified only as Jacob. Both were fine, but they quickly – and understandably – announced their intent to leave.

‘Are you going, Jacob,’ the influencer asks his partner at a particularly problematic portion of the cave, before the other loses his cool and briefly pulls him under.

The clip, shared Friday, has quickly amassed thousands of views – and one half of the pair recounted the close call in an accompanying caption.

‘While exploring with Matt on [Guadalupe River Ranch], we went into this sumped cave,’ wrote the man who managed to keep his cool even as his partner panicked.

‘Jacob missed an air pocket which led to him panicking and shoving me under,’ he added.

After the initial scare, the duo’s fellow explorers are heard repeatedly assuring Jacob ‘you’re OK, you’re OK,’ as the spelunker lets out a resounding ‘Oh my God’ after realizing how close he came to exploring his last cave.

‘I’m going back out,’ Jacob then announces, as his now-surfaced partner calmly looks around after returning to his air pocket.

Some of the men are even seen smiling after discerning the incident was no more than a scare – and even resumed exploring the cavern a few days later.

According to the duo’s social media, they have been chronicling their exploits for the better part of a year – and had their interests piqued by the unexplored cave system at the ranch recently snapped up by fellow social media explorer Matt Carriker.

The group immediately thought it would be a fun expedition, and donned their wetsuits and gear and dived in.

The cameras attached to their heads showed the ensuing action – and the close confines of the labyrinth that awaited them, most of which was underwater.

After successfully navigating the cavern for several minutes, the party reached a portion where air pockets were particularly scarce – spurring Jacob’s bout of fear.

The scare, overall, only lasted a few seconds, but gave the group a glimpse of what could happen underground without the necessary preparations.

A few days later, Carriker – who has more than 4million subscribers on YouTube and purchased the previously abandoned ranch this year – returned to the site, this time taking the time to pump out the water that obscured their path earlier.

Jacob, meanwhile, after sustaining a minor cut to the eye from the cave’s enclosed ceiling, took to his personal YouTube after the scare – which appeared to have happened sometime last week – to show his was all right.

While visibly shaken, he remarks ‘I almost died,’ before laughing the near death experience off with his comrades.

Breathing heavily and visibly worse for wear, he is seen getting up and walking towards the cave’s exit, while his friend remarked: ‘We all made it out alive this time.’

Once outside, the group laugh more about how close the pair came to death.

The original YouTube clip, as of Tuesday, has garnered nearly 50,000 views, while being clipped and reshared several thousand times on other online platforms.
