Police bodycam footage captured the moment a Florida officer apprehended a jet ski thief, who could not swim.
On Sunday a sergeant from the Volusia Sheriff’s Office assisted the Ormond Beach Police Department after they got a call about someone stealing a jet ski in the Halifax river, which is part of the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway on Florida’s east coast.
Police say 48-year-old Ronald Williams tried to steal the jet ski and was unable to start it.
Williams ended up floating away into the middle of the waterway.

The footage shows a sergeant approach a family who was about to head out into the water.
They agree to allow him and a fellow officer to borrow their boat to catch the thief.
The sergeant and the officer took off on the pleasure craft and spot Williams.
They identify themselves.
The sergeant tells the thief who is stranded to put his hands up and instructs him to ‘come over here!’ while aiming his gun at him.
But Williams reveals he can’t swim to which the other officer driving the boat remarks: ‘So you’re gonna take a jet ski but you don’t know how to swim’
The sergeant then tells Williams he will throw him a rope, asking multiple times if he had any weapons on him as he stumbles awkwardly on the jet ski looking afraid of the water.
The sergeant throws the rope at Williams and then the footage cuts to the moment the jet ski is retrieved and tied to the boat

According to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office, Williams was taken into custody without incident and the jet ski was returned to its owner.
