VETERAN Tory MP Colonel Bob Stewart was today charged by cops over two public order offences.
The MP was charged with one count of using threatening or abusive words or behaviour or disorderly behaviour and the offence was racially aggravated.
The Met also charged him with using threatening or abusive words or behaviour likely to cause harassment, alarm or distress.
The incident in question was alleged to have taken place in December last year in leafy Belgravia.
Colonel Bob will appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, 5 July.
For now he won't have the Tory whip withdrawn.
Sources in the whips office believe the MP has been clear that he regrets the comments and will fight the charges against him in court.
Colonel Bob, 73, was first elected to represent Beckenham in 2010.
Before joining parliament he served as a British Army officer and was a United Nations commander in Bosnia.
In December last year the Evening Standard reported that acomplaint made by Sayed Ahmed Alwadaei, the director of the Bahrain Institute for Rights and Democracy (Bird).
The pair were allegedly involved in a consultation outside a reception hosted by the Bahraini embassy at the Foreign Office.

The MP reportedly told the human rights activist to “go back to Bahrain” and to “get stuffed”.
He later admitted he regretted the comments but insisted he was “not being racist in any way”.
