A person has died in a house fire after a home in Burwood went up in flames on Saturday afternoon.
Five firetrucks were dispatched to a burning house on Fitzroy Street at about 1.40pm.
Around 20 firefighters were forced to battle the blaze from outside the house until they could bring the fire under control and gain access.
Police later confirmed one person had died.
Superintendent Adam Dewberry from Fire and Rescue said firefighters were still mopping up the remnants of the fire late on Saturday afternoon.
“Now the cause and origin is being investigated by the police and fire investigators, but it is an evolving situation,” he said.
Police from Burwood station were on the scene and urging the public to avoid the area.
