EXCLUSIVE Beware of the cat burglar! Pet owner’s horror after CCTV captures terrifying moment moggy creeps into the house brandishing a five-inch KNIFE
- Gingee the cat brings home dozens of household items from neighbours
A cat owner was shocked after his moggy crept into his house brandishing a 5 inch kitchen knife and tried to get into his bedroom.
Jay Phoenix says he was woken at 3am by tapping on the bedroom door, only to discover his four-year-old Maine Coon called Gingee at his bedroom door with the blade in her mouth.
The 43-year-old said: ‘In the early hours of the morning I heard tapping on the bedroom door, we had shut her out as she loves to wake me up at 5am.
‘I ignored it but when my partner woke up and opened the door there she was with the knife.
‘Straight away he looked at the footage and saw her casually walking through the cat door looking like a pirate.

Gingee the Maine Coon…with the blade in her mouth
Jay’s four-year-old Maine Coon called Gingee tried to get into his bedroom with a knife
‘She has brought in rubbish, animals and toys before but never weapons.
‘I’m worried she was cross because we locked her out of the bedroom.’
Jay, from Buckley, north Wales, says he set up CCTV cameras after his pet became a real life cat burglar, bringing home dozens of household items pilfered from neighbours.
He says he is now considering setting up a metal detector around the cat flap.
Gingee’s feline crime spree has also included children’s swimming goggles, plant pots, a kitchen colander, toys and more scissors.
With new items arriving four times per week Jay, and his partner have taken to posting on a local Facebook group to try and reunite neighbours with their possessions.

Jay said Gingee (pictured) ‘definitely seems quite pleased with herself sometimes’
In once case an item was returned to its owner, only for it to disappear again a short while later.
Jay said: ‘Every other day we wake up to something new. We have even fitted CCTV cameras to catch her in the act but so far she’s avoided it.
‘She definitely seems quite pleased with herself sometimes. She leaves them right where we can see them, so clearly she believes they are gifts for us.
‘We don’t scold her or anything. We just find it hilarious now. It’s the most bizarre behaviour we’ve ever seen. We just post on Facebook every time she brings something back, hoping someone will claim it.
‘Other than being a little thief, Gingee is the most loving, attention-seeking cutie you’ll ever meet. She loves meeting new people and having a fuss made of her.

‘She likes to be close to you, so will often wander up to us on the sofa and just flop down beside us and fall asleep. She’s unique and gorgeous.’
And locals see the funny side with one joking: ‘Well at least he had safety goggles for carrying the scissors in the bucket . Clever cat.’
Another quipped: ‘Next time he goes out can I give him an order for what I need.’
This isn’t the first time a moggy’s thievery has left an owner feline embarrassed. Last year Rachel Masterman, 48, from Gwent, Wales, revealed her cat Demo had brought home a sex toy as well as gloves, a watering can and flowers from a grave.
