A disturbing diary entry has exposed the troubled mind of a man who battered a sex worker in a hotel room leaving her with permanent brain damage.

Matthew Sean Donaldson, 43, bludgeoned an escort with a hammer at the five-star Primus Hotel in Sydney on February 23, 2021.

The escort was left in a pool of blood with bleeding on the brain and severe fractures to her skull .

Documents presented to the NSW District Court this week revealed Donaldson had written tasks for himself in the lead-up, with a to-do list that included the phrase, ‘practice kill’.

The written tasks (pictured) were a part of documents presented to the NSW District Court at his sentencing this week, which included doctors’ reports and handwritten letters

The words ‘pistol practice’ and ‘purchase tool’ were crossed out with ‘Uber to Bunnings’ and ‘Just Do It’ also written on the page.

Donaldson later told police the ‘practice kill’ comments referred to a video game he had been playing.

The 43-year-old also wrote he would hire two escorts.

Donaldson had met up with the 26-year-old escort and the pair were seen smiling at each other in the elevator going up to his hotel room on the night of the attack, news.com.au reported.

On his way to the hotel he had read nine articles on murdering women in an Uber vehicle and brought a suitcase of items including a knife, ball gag and a Bunnings hammer.

The pair ordered cheese boards for the occasion before Donaldson cut her underwear off.

But they got into an argument about women selling their bodies for sex with Donaldson saying the intimate act should be saved for ‘loves’.

The sex worker then turned away from him to look at her phone before she was struck on the head with a hammer.

Donaldson (pictured in CCTV after the attack) left and took a train from Town Hall to Penrith before hopping into a taxi to Blaxland in the Blue Mountains

The woman fell to the floor and began to make mumbling noises.

Donaldson left and took a train from Town Hall to Penrith before hopping into a taxi to Blaxland in the Blue Mountains, Nine News reported.

He texted the victim later that night writing, ‘Should have picked a different career honey’.

He fled into the bush with a loaded pistol on him and was planning to end his life but he was tracked down by police two days later.

In the hotel room authorities found bloodied underpants, a hammer and a suitcase with condoms, tape, hoods, rope and handcuffs.

She was rushed to hospital with bleeding on the brain, severe fractures to the skull, cheek and eye socket.

Donaldson claimed he hit her with the hammer because he had ‘freaked out’ thinking the woman was going to attack him.

He had posted an image of the hotel room before the incident with the caption, ‘game over’.

When someone commented, ‘That looks fancy. What game are you playing?’ he wrote: ‘Life or death. I lost.’

Authorities are trying to figure out whether Donaldson was delusional due to his undiagnosed schizophrenia or if he had planned the attack to satisfy his sadistic fantasies.

The Mount River man had a history of indulging in sadomasochistic pornography, the court heard.

His diary tasks were a part of court documents showing what he had written out as tasks to do that day.

Doctors reports tendered to the court revealed he had anxiety, autism, depression,  and possibly a sexual sadism disorder.

He pleaded guilty to wounding with intent to murder in May 2021 and will face another sentence hearing on March 27.
