Emergency crews have evacuated a primary school and a council building in response to a gas leak at a town north-west of Melbourne.
Authorities were called after a digger ruptured a large gas main on Halletts Way in the Bacchus Marsh suburb of Darley about 2pm on Thursday.

A “stay indoors” warning was issued about 3pm, replacing an earlier “stay informed” alert.
Police arrived at the scene and evacuated Pentland Primary School, the Moorabool Shire Council building and a music school, all of which are situated between Halletts Way and Wittick Street.
Residents have been told a visible gas cloud is travelling in an easterly direction and are advised to avoid the area.
They have also been told to close and lock doors and windows, turn off heating and cooling systems and to bring pets inside.
Workers from AusNet, the gas provider involved, are at the scene.
WorkSafe and the Environmental Protection Agency have been notified.
