Stand-up comic Matt Forde slams parent for bringing baby to show – but fans say 'you're the biggest baby in the room' | The Sun

STAND-UP comedian Matt Forde has come under fire online after slamming a parent for bringing a crying baby to his show.

Yesterday, the 39-year-old comic posted to Twitter saying that an upset baby had "derailed" large parts of his show at Edinburgh Fringe.

Matt, known for his political jokes and adult humour, went on to say the parent could have done the decent thing and left when the baby started crying – but didn't.

The social media post, to his 93,100 Twitter followers, quickly sparked a debate.

He wrote: "Someone brought their baby to my show last night.

"Sadly it derailed large parts of it because they wouldn't do the decent thing and just leave when it started crying.

"I get that it must be tough as a new parent but please, don't bring babies to adult shows. It's always a problem."

The comedian went on to say he admitted he sounded a bit "whiny" but he wanted to make sure it wouldn't happen again.

He said: "It's like someone's phone continually ringing and them not turning it off.

"I've had so many messages from people who were there last night who were very polite about the fact it p****d them off."

This saw his comments section flooded with criticism.

One person said: "Good grief. Well if I ever planned to come to a show I certainly won't be any more!

"What an attitude to have as a parent-of-two, I'd be feeling sorry for the parent of the crying baby."

Another added: "I'm sure you still managed to be the biggest baby in the room."

A third slated: "As long as you realise this is incredibly sexist as young, breastfed babies can't be left at home.

"I hope your terms and conditions made it clear that no babies were allowed at your show.

"And if so surely it is a problem for your door staff or are you happy to take peoples money then shame them?"

But, not all users disagreed with what Matt, and one wrote: "People become so self absorbed once they become parents."

Another chimed in: "I think it's just a case of selfish, entitled middle class people remain selfish and entitled."

The comedian, from Nottingham, has since responded to the backlash with some clarifications.

He said: “1. It was all very friendly. I made a joke about it all and incorporated the baby into the show. Eventually it was just impossible.

“2. The baby was with its father.

“3. West Ham’s goal was rightly disallowed, we were the better side and deserved to win. #NFFC.”

The show, Clowns to the Left of Me, Jokers to the Right, runs until August 28 at the Edinburgh Fringe.

The official Edinburgh Fringe website claims that: "Babies do not require a ticket."
