Ready, set, mo! Photographer captures moment swooping Robin appears to wear a mealworm as a Movember moustache

  • A swooping robin led the charge into Movember with mealworm tucked in his beak just like a moustache
  • The earthy snack created the perfect effect to mark the men’s charity challenge to raise awareness of cancer
  • The bird, nicknamed ‘Superbob’, was pictured by 58-year-old Martin Abbess in Royston, Hertfordshire
  • Mr Abbess said: ‘Superbob looks like he is showing his support for the cause in this photograph and rightly so’

This is the moment that a friendly robin swoops into the month of Movember by sporting a rather fetching mealworm moustache as he hovers in mid air.

The bird, who has been named ‘Superbob’ by photographer Martin Abbess, 58, carries the mealworm in his beak, with the snack creating the perfect effect to mark the start of the November charity challenge.

Every year people take part in Movember, by growing a beard or moustache to support the fight against prostate cancer, testicular cancer and men’s mental health and suicide prevention.

And it is clear that Superbob is no exception, as the bird is sporting a delightful facial flourish as he goes about his day.

The image was taken in Martin’s back garden in Royston, Hertfordshire, where Superbob has been a daily visitor for two years.

Mr Abbess said: ‘Ready steady mo! Superbob looks like he is showing his support for the cause in this photograph and rightly so.

‘I’m not sure what kind of moustache he is sporting. Not quite a Tom Selleck, maybe a Mexican style tache. He looks great though, and the picture certainly made me smile.

‘He is quite a character and is a real regular in the garden.

‘He is always backwards and forwards, that’s why I call him Superbob.’
