A teenager is in hospital after he was shot in Melbourne’s west on Thursday afternoon.

The 18 year old was alone inside an Orlando Drive home in Truganina around 3.40pm when he was shot in what police believe was a targeted attack.

“The exact circumstances surrounding the shooting are still to be determined, however police believe the incident was targeted,” a Victoria Police statement said.

Ambulance Victoria said the teenager suffered upper and lower body injuries and was taken to hospital in a stable condition.

Police allege at least two offenders fled from the suburban street on foot after shooting the teenager and remain on the run.

A crime scene was established inside the Truganina home late on Thursday night and detectives from the gang crime squad have been called in to conduct the investigation.

The incident follows a spate of shootings across Melbourne in recent weeks.

A sleeping 17-year-old Endeavour Hills boy was shot through his bedroom window on September 13 while four family members slept in nearby bedrooms. No arrests have been made.

Police allege the incident, which involved at least two people who were caught on CCTV staking out the Janmara Court home, was also a targeted attack.

Police believe the gunman had the correct house but the wrong target.

Less than 24 hours later, a Craigieburn home was sprayed with bullets while a man and a woman, both aged in their 50s, were sleeping inside.
