Terrifying moment screaming construction worker dangles from crane hundreds of feet in the air | The Sun

TERRIFYING video shows a building site worker dangling from a crane hundreds of feet in the air.

He can be heard screaming while suspended by his hand under a pallet of construction materials as it is lowered between skyscrapers in Toronto, Canada.

Shocking footage – apparently filmed by other workers – was posted on social media.

Onlookers are heard shouting to the man "Hang on!" as he flails his legs high above the ground.

At one point his hard hat falls from his head and drops to the hard surface below.

One onlooker is heard saying: "Oh my God, how the f*** did this happen?"

As he is lowered further, the witnesses begin to fear he will be crushed by the load, and shout to the crane driver: "Stop!"

The video does not show him reaching the bottom.

But site bosses said the worker was safely lowered and suffered no serious injury.

Police, firefighters and the ambulance service said they were not called, reports broadcaster CBC.

Building firm PCL Constructors confirmed an "incident took place" on Tuesday when a worker's hand was "entangled with a tagline after hooking a load".

It added: "Fortunately, he was safely lowered to the work surface and not seriously injured."

The worker was employed by subcontractor Modern Niagara as a rigger, responsible for ensuring loads of materials are securely fastened before being hoisted by crane operators.

Ontario's labour ministry is investigating and sent an inspector to the city centre site.

It said: "It was reported that a worker became entangled with a tag line from a crane after hooking a load, was hoisted off the podium level and sustained injuries."

PCL said it is "working with all appropriate authorities" and that an investigation is ongoing.

The construction site is the same one where a crane collapsed and fell on the roof of an adjacent building 200ft up.

Four buildings were evacuated after the accident in July 2020 but no one was badly hurt.
