The Germans call it ‘schadenfreude’: the joy and satisfaction derived from someone else’s misfortune.
And there are some instances when someone’s poor – or even malign – choices have all too expected consequences.
From those shirking the generally accepted rules of society, to others playing simply destructive pranks, or being cruel to animals, it’s difficult not to let out a little smirk when the culprit’s own actions backfire.
Here, MailOnline again rounds up some of the best moments of instant karma caught on camera.
It’s a fool moon tonight!
This is the disastrous moment one man tries to poke fun at a raging bull before instantly regretting his actions just moments later.
One would think there are some animals notorious and dangerous enough not to consider taunting – the bull being one of them.
But despite their reputation and countless previous incidents, this man appeared to have clambered over the railings at the unknown location and into the animal’s enclosure.
If that wasn’t dangerous enough, the man then drops his shorts and ‘moons’ the bull whist it in turn gets increasingly enraged by the antics.
The bull then drops its head and starts to charge. Instantly, the man leaps up and tries to climb back over the fence.
But his efforts and in vain and he’s flipped up into the air by the animal’s force, almost performing a summersault.
The animal continues to charge at him as onlookers watch in shock. Again, he is thrust into the air by the bull.
Some of those watching make an effort to go and help the man, but the bull soon turns to face them shortly before the footage cuts.
Commenting on the video, one Reddit user joked: ‘Bull 7, Human Dignity 0’.
Addressing the man’s taunting by dropping his shorts, another wrote: ‘Pulling your pants down in a bull run is equivalent to taking your helmet off on a battlefield.’

Not-so-easy rider
A motorcyclist in the US was dealt a catastrophic blow when he thought he could hit the open road and perform a ‘wheelie’ down a highway.
The car in front, appearing to expect something disastrous was about to happen, filmed the motorcyclist as he pulled back from the preceding car and away from the vehicle tailing him.
Wearing a black helmet, the man looks to his left and right, seemingly to check he has space around him and the oncoming traffic ahead of him.
He then pulls down on the throttle and tilts his bike up so that he’s driving down the highway on just his back wheel.
But he over-commits and finds himself tiled all the way back, flailing about on the tarmac.
The motorbike – now without a rider – is then launched into the air and veers into the opposite lane.
The bike strikes a black car side-on as debris cascades in all directions from the vehicle.
Pieces of the motorcycle continue to shoot off as the bike tumbles around and back onto the road.
The passengers in the car in front, who appear to have North American accents, watch the disaster behind them as one of them appears to say: ‘And he wrecked it.’
A female voice then says ‘he’s good’ as the man is seen stumbling back to his feet in what could have been a horrendous accident. The car that was hit by the oncoming bike is also seen pulling over to the side.
Reddit commenters shared their shock and displeasure over the motorcyclist’s actions and the potential injury that could have been inflicted on themselves and surrounding vehicles.
‘Is the other driver ‘good’?!,’ one concerned commenter wrote.

The drinks are on me!
There are some instances of instant karma where individuals are met with entirely perfect consequences in return for their spiteful actions. This clip is one such example.
Originally surfacing in 2021, two cars are seen at an unknown location sitting side by side. Both passengers look at one another through unrolled windows.
The footage, filmed from within one car, shows a man launching a filled takeaway cup at the next car.
The beverage appears to hit the side of the vehicle but doesn’t spray the driver.
However, still clearly bemused by the man’s actions, the driver in the next car reaches for his own beverage to fire back in return.
The cup tumbles through the air before the liquid gushes over the original thrower.
Despite instigating the liquid attack, the now drenched man seems bemused, gesturing as to why the passenger in the other car would throw their drink at him.
Commenters pointed out the man’s hypocrisy: ‘Why is he surprised as if he didn’t do the same.’
‘Bro he so surprised. What you expect? For him to thank you [laughing crying emoji],’ another wrote.
One commenter summed the instant karma up perfectly using Sir Isaac Newton’s third law of motion: ‘Every action has an equal and opposite reaction.’

Not such a bright spark
This shocking moment went devastatingly wrong for one pyromaniac hobbyist who started an explosion in a skate park before a flaming offshoot of debris fired back into them.
Footage shows someone setting alight what was reported to be a small nitrate bomb on top of a skate ramp in De Gors, just outside of Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
The fire is surrounded by a series of bottles said to have contained turpentine, a flammable liquid which ignites easily.
Holding the camera, the fire starter then scampers away to watch the explosion from what they assume is a safe distance – around 20 metres away.
The fire intensifies as flames rise and smoke billows away – but it only reaches what appears to be less than a metre in height.
Suddenly an enormous yellow blaze flashes in front of the screen, firing debris in all directions.
One of the flaming bottles fires towards the arsonist. It is unknown if they are hit or if they miraculously escape an incredibly close near miss.
A series of hysterical laughter is heard in the background from multiple people as well as a yelp before the video cuts. It is unknown who the explosion culprits were.
‘I find it interesting that objects tend to hit people to a statistically improbable degree, like in this case. It’s as if physics demands it for some reason,’ one commenter wrote.
Another joked it was just how they like their vandals: ‘Crispy’.

This guy is a real drag…
This is the embarrassing moment a teenager, messing around with his pall, gets his jacket stuck in a moving vehicle before getting dragged along the tarmac.
The two young boys, in an unknown location, were filmed in a car park as they taunted drivers with one using his long coat to pretend he was buffing the car.
One of the boys pushes his friend into the road in front of an oncoming tuk-tuk, but the motorised vehicle slows and he stumbles out of the way. The friend then grins back.
The two then wander along a car park where they come across a grey Mitsubishi saloon.
They both pretend to wipe the car and it slowly moves by. One of the boys is wearing a long jacket which he uses to wipe over the top of the car.
But as the car drives away, the bottom of his jacket gets caught in the spoiler.
The young boy is then knocked forward and finds himself being dragged along the ground in the vehicle’s path.
His friends and other locals come to the boy’s aid as the car continues to speed off, seemingly unaware that he is getting dragged along behind.
‘No capes!,’ one commenter joked in reference to the boy’s long jacket and the famous catchphrase from superhero fashion designer Edna ‘E’ Mode in Disney’s The Incredibles.
‘That’s a real spoiler,’ another commenter quipped.
Another commented in jest: ‘Oh sorry didn’t notice you were with me for the rest or my trip of 471 kilometers!!!’

Dog 1 Man 0
This is the hilarious moment a man’s attempt to kick a stray dog backfired disastrously after he swung his leg and clattered to the ground.
In the footage caught on CCTV outside a shop in an unknown location, a man is seen wandering on the pavement as a dog approaches him and lets out a small bark.
Evidently not having a good day, the walker appears to get annoyed by the canine and swings a kick at the animal.
In a swift move that The Matrix’s Neo would be proud of, the four-legged animal evades the man’s punt, scrambling out the way at the last second.
But as the force of the man’s kick continues to follow through, he is unable to maintain his balance.
Due to the laws of physics and the sheer thrust of the malign kick, the man is knocked to the ground as he falls off his planted left leg.
It also appears as though a hat or wig falls off the man’s head as he is dealt a dose of instant karma for messing with man’s best friend.
Before the short video cuts away, the man is seen face down on the ground as the stray dog watches on.
‘Putting the instant into instant karma!,’ one Reddit commenter joked.
Another said: ‘That wasn’t a kick, that was an attempt to take it’s entire face off. Thoroughly deserved that fall.’
‘You gotta be some kind of human to attempt to kick a dog in the face,’ another wrote.

Urine for it now…
One man was served quite a comical dose of instant karma when he tripped and fell, chucking a cup of what appeared to be urine over himself that had been allegedly intended for police.
The footage, filmed in an unknown location, shows the man scampering along an uneven street towards a large group appearing to engage in some form or ruckus.
He is holding a cup filled with a yellow, florescent liquid – reportedly urine.
Something is then seen to divert the group away from where they are gathering and they simultaneously turn and run in the opposite direction.
At the same time, the man trips over a strip of uneven road and is knocked onto his back.
The content of the cup then tips over him, drenching the man in the suspiciously yellow liquid.
Seeing the man on the ground, other men help him up as they continue to flee the scene.
‘It looks like a little Karma got on the dude who helped him up,’ one commenter quipped.
