Did you think it was scorching at Glasto? There are another FIVE heatwaves on the way…
- Revellers have been spotted with fans and parasols amid high temperatures
- But weather experts believe temperatures in July could be even hotter
- Some are predicting last year’s record 40.3C could be surpassed this summer
Brits may want to remember some of the novel ways festival-goers at Glastonbury kept themselves cool in the sweltering heat yesterday – as weather forecasters say five more heatwaves can be expected this summer.
Record-breaking high temperatures are predicted for up to 14 days in July and could beat last year’s unprecedented 40.3C (105F).
The Weather Company, the world’s biggest commercial forecaster, says further heatwaves are expected in early and late July, as well as two more in the first half of August – before hotting up yet again in September.
The Met Office said 40C (104F) is ‘not out of the question’, with temperatures boosted by hot continental air.
But high temperatures have already impacted Glastonbury festival, which began on Wednesday.
Turning up the heat: The sun has been beating down on music lovers at Glastonbury this year
Hot, hot, hot: At Glastonbury, festival-goers were struggling in the 25C (77F) heat, but record-breaking temperatures exceeding this are predicted for July
Come rain…or shine: Festivalgoers find solace in the heat under the shade of their umbrellas
Keeping a cool head: One fan wraps his top around his face as temperatures soared on Saturday
Too hot to drink: A crowd gathers under the shade of the bar as the mercury rose on Saturday
At Worthy Farm yesterday, festival-goers were already struggling in the 25C (77F) heat.
Some designed makeshift showers out of plastic bags with holes in the bottom and others, desperate to find any shade, lounged under sheltered stages, equipped with handheld fans modified to also spray water.
Revellers even poured bottles of water over their heads and bartenders at the site reported many attendees were buying less alcohol due to the intensity of the heat.
And at the campsite, many ditched their stuffy tents and dragged mattresses outside to sleep in the open air.
But a host of celebrities have been enjoying the festival’s hot weather, with actress Lily James partying with friends Billie Piper and Gemma Chan – as she cosied up to newly single actor Taron Egerton in the exclusive backstage area.
Dressed head-to-toe in clothing brand Barbour, the Mamma Mia! actress, 34, stuck her tongue out as they larked around together.
Egerton, 33, is reportedly set to join Elton John – whom he played in Rocketman, a biopic about the star – for his headline gig tonight.
Former Love Island host Laura Whitmore was also spotted with husband Iain Stirling. They were watching singer-songwriter Tom Grennan, along with Star Wars actor Anthony Daniels and his wife Christine Savage.

And yesterday afternoon NHS workers were invited onto the famous Pyramid Stage to mark 75 years of the health service. A group including nurses, doctors and physiotherapists performed a poem alongside poet Miles Chambers, followed by a film documenting the NHS’s history.
Last night’s big performances included diva singer Lizzo; Lewis Capaldi, who made a return after taking time away from his tour to ‘rest and recover’; and rock band Guns ‘N’ Roses, the headline act on the festival’s Pyramid Stage.
