Three men have been arrested on suspicion of murder following an investigation launched into a man who had fallen into a river.
Police were called early on Sunday morning to a report that a man in his 20s had fallen down an embankment near Victoria Bridge in Hereford on the River Wye.
The man is believed by police to have been involved in an altercation before he fell into the water.
His family have been informed of the development, West Mercia Police said.
Detective Chief Inspector Tony Garner said: ‘Teams have continued to search the river today but unfortunately have so far been unable to find the missing man.

‘Our enquiries are still in the initial stages, however, following new information that the missing man was involved in an altercation, we have now arrested three men on suspicion of murder.
‘They are currently in police custody while our enquiries continue into the circumstances leading up to the time the man is believed to have entered the river.
A friend of the man alerted the police to the incident at 12.05am on Sunday.
A cordon remains in place at the scene and searches continue with the help of specialist support.
