A tiny shack on a beach which sells seafood has hit out at British Gas after it was smacked with a more than £44,000 energy bill.
Riley’s Fish Shack, in Tynemouth, North Tyneside, is famous for its fresh fish and idyllic location on King Edward’s Bay.
It was given a glowing review by food popular food critic Jay Rayner who called his lunch a ‘marvel’ for just around £10.
But despite its renown the restaurant has only three tables inside, a balcony area with a bench and seats outside on the beach where diners eat in the open air.

The restaurant has taken to Instagram to berate British Gas for their quoted energy bill.
Sharing a screenshot of a business account that had a balance of minus £44,006.85, the shack said: ‘@britishgas are you for real?!
‘I’ve decided to join in this “share your bill on social media” game – can anytime beat this?’
The social media post added: ‘Needless to say, there’s not enough in that account to cover it!!!’
A social media user commented: ‘That is outrageous’. Another added: ‘Disgusting’.
A British Gas spokesperson said they were unable to comment.
