Two boys aged 16 and 17 who died in early morning car crash named by grieving families as tributes are left at the scene

Two teenagers died in a ‘tragic’ car smash in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Best friends Riley Hedley, 17, and Mikey Easton, 16, were the teenagers who died in Morpeth, Northumberland, in a horror car smash, their families said.
Police were called to a report of a collision on the A196 near Coopies Way, in Morpeth, Northumberland shortly after 12.40am.
Emergency services rushed to the crash but despite the best efforts of medics, the teenagers were pronounced dead at the scene.
Emotional tributes have been left for the teenagers at the scene of the tragic crash by their families and well-wishers.

On Sunday afternoon, dozens of bunches of flowers had been left on a tree near the scene. One of the floral tributes, left for one of the boys, said ‘Fly High Mikey’.
Another bunch of flowers, left for Riley, said: ‘Always a smile on your face’ and ‘Rip sweetheart gone too soon.’
Mikey’s father posted a heartfelt tribute to his son on social media.
‘Hardest post ever. Fly high my beautiful little boy…..Totally gutted, devastated hope you are peace my little angel dad and mam love you so much.’
Sister Ebony wrote that she ‘couldn’t believe’ that her brother was gone and that the accident didn’t feel real.

Police rushed to the crash on the A196 after receiving reports of the smash at approximately 12.40 on Sunday morning
‘I can’t believe you are gone it doesn’t feel real, we miss you so much already, honestly I don’t know what to say I’m still so shocked you’re gone but we had some great times and even better memories.’
Riley’s sister said she had lost her best friend and that he was ‘far too good for this world’.
Sergeant Craig Bartle, of Northumbria Police’s Motor Patrols department, said:
‘This is an incredibly tragic incident involving two young men who had their whole lives ahead of them.
‘Our thoughts go out to both the young men’s families and close ones as they attempt to come to terms with today’s devastating news.
Flowers have been left at the site and the victims’ families are being supported by specialist officers
‘We will support them in every way we can and ask that the family’s privacy is respected.
‘An investigation has been launched to establish the circumstances surrounding the collision and we’re asking for anyone who has not yet spoken to us to get in touch, especially if you were travelling in the area and may have some information or dashcam footage that could help our enquiries.’
Northumbria Police have said both families are currently being supported by specialist officers and officers have launched an investigation.
