BRITS are bracing for a frosty chill to end the week as temperatures are set to plunge to an icy -6C.
It comes after the UK Health Security Agency extended an urgent health warning this due to the risk posed by freezing weather.
A level three cold weather alert has been extended now from Friday until Saturday.
The Met Office is forecasting freezing fog and sub-zero conditions for parts of the UK in the coming days.
Scotland, Northern Ireland and western areas of England and Wales are set to see finger-numbing cold, with the possibility of the mercury dipping as low as -6C in Northern Ireland.
However, a break from recent rain is expected as, despite the freeze, most areas are predicted to see clear skies and even some sunny spells.

Southern areas may also avoid the worst of the chill sweeping other parts, with air temperatures likely to stay above zero.
There may, though, be some ground frost in places due to a lower ground temperature.
Highs of 6C to 9C are also possible over the weekend.
Met Office forecaster Aiden McGivern said: "Potential for a ground frost in the South because the ground is so cold at the moment although the air temperature will probably just about stay above freezing.

"Scotland, Northern Ireland, parts of west England and Wales more prone to clear skies and a frost especially for Scotland and Northern Ireland -1C or -2C and as low as -6C in the coldest spots of Northern Ireland where there will also be some dense fog around."
Some "light and patchy" rain is predicted for central England on Saturday, but is forecast to give way to the clearer weather sweep across the country.
