VLADIMIR PUTIN has been branded a coward as his twisted forces lashed out at civilian infrastructure after suffering heavy losses.
The retaliation by Russia — after losing significant territory in Ukraine’s northeast — targeted water facilities and a thermal power plant in Kharkiv, knocking out the power grid in the region and causing a complete blackout, officials said.
The Russian Ministry of Defence confirmed the retreat of Russian forces from both Izyum and Balakliya on Saturday.
In a statement published by state media outlet RIA Novosti the Ministry said: “It was decided to regroup the Russian troops stationed in the Balakleya and Izyum regions to step up efforts in the Donetsk direction.”
Volodymyr Zelensky also confirmed that has been a “total blackout” in Kharkiv and Donetsk.
The blackout has been caused by Russian “terrorists” that have attacked “critical infrastructure” in an attempt to “deprive people of light & heat”.

Backup power line to the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant restored
The IAEA have confirmed that a backup power line to the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant inside Ukraine has been restored.
It is providing the external electricity it needs to cool its reactors, the International Atomic Energy Agency said on Sunday.
The IAEA said on Twitter: “After yesterday’s restoration of [the] power line … #ZNPP operator this morning shut down its last operating reactor, which over past week had been providing ZNPP w/ required power after it was disconnected from grid."

They said: "Over the last 24 hours, Ukrainian forces have continued to make significant gains in the Kharkiv region.
"Russia has likely withdrawn units from the area, but fighting continues around the strategically important cities of Kupiansk and Izium.
"On 07 September 2022, President Putin said that only 60,000 tonnes of the grain exported from Ukraine since August had been sent to developing countries, and that the majority had been delivered to EU states.

The key city of Izium is now in Ukrainian hands and they are now just 50 miles from the Russian border as Moscow’s troops desperately withdraw in a bid to hold onto the land they captured.

Final reactor at Europe's largest nuclear power station shut down
Power unit six at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant was shut down completely in the early hours of this morning.
According to Ukraine's national energy operator, Energoatom, the choice was made to transfer the reactor to its "safest state."
“A decision was made to shut down power unit No 6 and transfer it to the safest state – cold shutdown,” it said on Telegram.
This comes as fears of a nuclear disaster continue to rise as fighting rages on around the plant.
Over the last weeks, both Ukraine and Russia have accused each other of damaging the plant.
