WET and windy weather is on its way as thunderstorms and gales are set to batter Britain this week.
Stormy weather is forecast for many after a cool and clear start to the week, bringing potential flooding and travel disruption into the weekend.
Today will be marked by dry, sunny spells across much of central and southern England.
Skies will be cloudier over western and northern parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland, with temperatures in the low teens alongside showery spells at times.
Rainfall and strong winds are expected by this evening in north Wales and northwest England as temperatures will plummet overnight.
Wednesday will bring more wet weather in parts of Northern Ireland, Scotland and northern England, while the southeast will remain mostly dry with some sunny spells and highs of 17C in London.

After an unsettled Thursday with rain from the west turning into a mix of sunshine and showers, heavy rainfall is expected over the weekend as a weather front will batter much of the UK.
Snow could also fall by Friday night in parts of Scotland, with up to four inches piling up between Fort William and Inverness.
Some intermittent dry and sunny spells may break out between the storms in the southeast, with the northwest likely to experience the worst of the rainfall.
The Met Office has warned gale force winds and wet weather could bring thunderstorms in northern regions beginning Saturday.

Flood warnings have been issued along coastlines in Yorkshire and Essex, with potential travel disruption experienced into next week.
Speaking in the Met Office Week Ahead forecast, Meteorologist and Presenter Aidan McGivern said Wednesday is forecast for "outbreaks of rain, heavy at times, for western Scotland and Northern Ireland pushing into northern and western England as well as Wales.
"The rain tends to fizzle into showers further south and it’ll stay largely dry in the southeast through Wednesday with some sunny spells.”
Aiden added: “Two areas of low-pressure and an active jet stream is waiting in the wings.
"With all these different features interacting with each other there will be some uncertainty in terms of the details for later this week.

“The overall theme of the forecast is pretty evident, with low pressure towards the northwest of the UK at the end of this week with some wet and windy weather and quite a number of showers.
"It’ll be a blustery day for all on Friday and even though there’s some uncertainties about the position of the low pressure, what’s most likely is low-pressure to the north, a brisk westerly airflow and a number of showers.”
